Hell yeah, not sure how I didn't mention them before. @KingCheetah be slackin' too. eta: heh, a fun thread would be "favorite strip club songs"
I've literally never seen anything like American Utopia. I recorded it a while back just for kicks and I have yet to delete it. I still watch it once or twice a week. It checks every single box that all great art should check.
I am exactly the same. Pretty sure I've watched it a dozen times, or just put it on in the background while in the kitchen or whatever. It was a Tony, btw, not an Emmy. The Emmys shafted him (they gave it to Hamilton, of course, and deservedly I guess). He's got the Grammy, Oscar and Tony...almost EGOT
its been about 20 years since ive been in one, but i feel like ive heard this song multiple times in strip clubs.
Anything for love. It was 16 minutes long. I used to ask the DJ to play it because he was unaware of the actual length of the CD version.
I'm going to have to check this out. When I was in high school midnight showings of Stop Making Sense was our Rocky Horror Picture Show.
mexicans too, apparently. i used to travel a lot in mexico and i went to some strip clubs down there. it seems like i heard this song every single time i went to one. i got some crazy stories about mexican stripclubs...perhaps for another thread.
If you have HBO, look for it. When I saw them on SNL, I thought for sure there had to be some sort of backing music tracks, backing drum tracks, backing vocal tracks....SOMETHING...because the music was literally perfect while they were doing all this choreography. Then saw the HBO special and....NOPE - it's 100% live. No backing tracks of any kind. Turns out they're just amazing musicians who rehearsed a LOT before taking it on the road.
