I could probably go on all day with this for 80s bands. It make sense. There were tons of Alternative (College) rock bands in the 80s that were just as good (and in most cases better) than their 90s counterparts. However, Nevermind hadn't been released yet, and that level of production wasn't available to any of these bands. Kind of like 80s REM is way better than 90s REM, but 90s REM is more well known...that's pretty much it in a nutshell (and I love 90s REM).

 

I want to know how all these 80s and 90s bands influenced the 60s bands

 

I'd like to know how all these white 60s bands from Great Britain influenced the black music coming out of the Mississippi Delta in the 1920s.

yeah, but i think you can draw a more direct link from sinead to all those 90's women artitsts. im not saying sinead was the first strong female artist to come out. my point was, she doesnt get enough credit for her influence on all those acts that came immediately after she did. alanis immediately reminded me of sinead...not only in her vocal style, but also the raw anger in her delivery and her lyrics. cranberries are another band where the singer really reminded me of sinead.

and i love siouxsie and the banshees. i celebrate their entire catalogue and as a drummer budgie is one of my biggest influences. they should definitely be more highly regarded these days than they are.

andrew wood ODing has to be one of the biggest R&R "what-ifs" ever. mother love bone was supposedly on the verge of more mainstream attention, but would they have blown up the way pearl jam did with 10? its hard to imagine that they would have.

and what about eddie vedder. would he have become famous fronting a different band. probably not.

im not a huge pearl jam fan, but i can recognize that theyre one of the most important bands of the last 30 years and its crazy to think that the only reason they exist is because a dude died of a heroin overdose.

technically, sineads first album came out a year before sarah mclachlans did. but either way, sinead achieved major mainstream success before mclachlan did. she had arguably the biggest hit of 1990 and was one of the biggest artists in the first couple years of the 1990s. as far as 90's female artists and the lillith fair types, sinead paved the way.

This is supposed to be underrated rock bands and people are talking about Foo Fighters and RHCP? That's like saying Tom Hanks is an underrated actor. Expand your horizons beyond Buzzfest.

How about some Flamin' Groovies?

 

Gram Parsons Byrds/ Flying Burrito Brothers invented country rock.
Would also say New Grass Revival but not a rock band.

 

I'm going to say ABBA. We all know their biggest hit Dancing Queen, but I've found plenty of other hits that were remade.
