    I think cantelope is overrated. It's hard to get a really good cantelope.

    But when you do get a good cantelope, I say its much better than any other fruits with the exception of the strawberry

    Do dried fruits count? Drying them out increases the sugar per cubic fruit bit ratio. Completely unfair comparison, like Patrick Swayze in "Roadhouse", completely fruity BUT----kicking arse instead of grabbing it :confused:

    Clementines are Delicious (too bad they aren't available year round) :(

    The bright orange Clementine from Spain is more strongly flavored than the domestic varieties. It has thinner membranes, more plentiful juice and a refreshingly sweet zip. It is also virtually seedless, making it particularly popular with children.

    I'd like to declare this the most unique and original thread ever!!

    I know THE most underrated fruit -- Pineapple. I know it's highly regarded among the fruit family, but unless it's up there at the VERY TOP it's underrated. Pineapple is THE GREATEST FRUIT EVER!!

    Once again, I find myself agreeing with Vengeance...

    One of the things I miss most about living in Florida is the abundance of Pineapple...

    Watermelon's the bomb too...

    Damn fatman, no love for cantaloupes!

    The reason you can't get good cantalopues is because they aren't in season very long.

    When I was a kid, I used to go swimming at my grandma's apartment complex in the summer. Every time I went over there, she would have a nice, big bowl of cantaloupe cut up, and I'd engulf the entire bowl in one day, so that fruit has a sentimental value to me. Few things in the world are as tasty as a bowl of perfectly ripe cantaloupe....and it's also one of the most nutritious fruits, having 100% DV of vitamin A and 80% DV of vitamin C

    Honeydews, on the other hand, are just plain NASTY...

    What about pomegranites? I used to love eating pomegranite when I was a kid, but I haven't had one in a while. They're a little difficult to eat, though...

    I've also heard that bananas might go extinct in ten years or so...any news on that?

    I think underrated fruits have been well fleshed out here, though I must say there are a bunch of fruits in this world that I've never even heard of.

    But, really I'm posting because, though it gets plenty of pub, the banana deserves every once of it. It is absolutely perfect in every way. Consider:

    • * Single serving size
      * sealed up in good protective skin
      * yet, easy to open
      * easy to hold
      * one-handed -- you can eat and drive
      * unique taste
      * available year-round
      * cheap
      * can be eaten straight or cooked
      * can be blended in a shake
      * when it goes bad, you can make banana bread
      * staple of classic slapstick comedy acts
      * useful in other acts as well
      * good source of potassium
      * consistently good (consider the peach which is very good when good and very bad when bad -- the banana may not be as good as a good peach, but solidly, consistently good.)
