That reminds me of one of my alltime favorite "Weekend Updates" on SNL. At the time, I guess Slater was in jail for 60 days or whatever for drugs or DUI or something. The update went something like: "Christian Slater was given a special ordered leave from prison, in order to attend the premiere of his movie, Hard Rain. Fifteen minutes into the film he asked to be returned to his cell."
I didn't think I could take The Rock seriously as an actor, but I have to admit, he was pretty damn good in that one...
It got a 7.7 on IMDB and was a cult hit. I believe you are in the minority there; or you're just a film critic that hates everything (32% among critics). If you don't lik it fine, but just because someone else did doesn't mean they have poor taste in movies. This is about "underrated" films here. Maybe I should throw Matrix Reloaded and Revolutions out there; two very underrated films that couldn't possibly live up to the expectations set forth by the fans and the previous films. Never could get into The Last Boyscout, but Die Hard rules all!
That movie was OK, but it could have been so much better. Harry Connick's character should not have been in the movie. I hate the part when they're chasing that fighter and Will Smith is trash-talking the alien. The premise of the movie was VERY good, but most of the dialog was HORRIBLE. If they would have treated it more seriously instead of trying to turn it into a "summer blockbuster" type movie, it would have been a classic.
What exactly constitutes underrated? And what is defined by action? Face/Off Con Air Demolition Man Cliffhanger These are balls to the wall action flicks but were some of the best action movies of their time; and all are pretty popular. Then there's movies listed that aren't straight up action...but are more sci-fi, or adventure, or comedy or drama. I love Pitch Black, and it was a cult hit, but I wouldn't lump it and say Blade Runner with Face/Off and Hard Boiled.
I like action movies where the hero is a loner against the world. Die Hard fits this genre. Many westerns have the elements of a loner with special talents or a "secret weapon"-I have always enjoyed these themes. Some of my favorites: "Get Carter"- with Sylvester Stallone and Micky Roarke-I am not generally a big Stallone fan-he never gives up "Payback" with Mel Gibson-Lucy Lui as a dominatrix is excellent-Porter never gives up " The Replacement Killers" with Chao Yun Fat and Mira Sorvino "Year of the Dragon"-I know this one has some racial overtones, and I cannot condone or excuse that, but the action is great - Micky Roarke at his finest
