BTW, in a world where there are no Beatles, there is not going to be a Bono. The Beatles unquestionably set the world stage for rock 'n roll.

I believe the poll said socially conscious, not social impact.

Care to revise your statements now treeman?

I agree with you completely RM95.

If it's about social conscious, then it's dome artist we've never heard of, so conscious that they're spending their life in the Peace Corps and writing songs to aid in the translation.

I think it should be impact...

If you want to start discussing social impact, I think you need to define what that means. Impact in what scope? In a good way or a bad way? Impacting behavior of others, or the musicians themselves impacting change?

I think I've gotta settle on Neil Young, after thinking about it. However, 100 years is an awfully long time . . . I'm sure there are even more that we don't know of.

As far as Dave Matthews Band being socially conscious, while the band is definitely more than abscent from the social consciousness scene, I wouldn't put them up in the same category as the U2s, or Neil Youngs. Personally, I'm kindof glad that DMB is not as into the social consciousness scene as others, at least in the songwriting.
