I think you are correct I meant to put that there While playing a instrument may amaze How many people can name anyone in britney spear's back up band hell Beyond Eddie Vetter who else is in Pearl Jam Attractiveness is like #1 Acting/Singing is second I mean . . .as someone pointed out most of these folx don't have degrees but their words carry far and wide Rocket River
I can agree with that as well. however. . . . some may say the ability to swindle people as well Rocket River
Which talent do we value most??? I'm going to say Athletics. Simply because the degree of success in any of those other fields is due to much more than talent alone. Britney Spears is the best singer? Tom Cruise is the best Actor? Each of the members of a band is the best at their field? Opportunity, promotion, luck, PR, good looks, etc -- all play as much of a role in determining who gets to be the top of their field, vs who gets to wait tables at night. I've seen some amazing musicians who can't make a living on their talent. And I find it tough to accept that the casting director of Friends happened to key in on six of the top actors that nobody had heard of before that show. But regardless of the hype or oportunity an athlete is given...if he can't beat his opponent on talent/hard work he won't be a success. So if it's just the talent we're evaluating -- I have to go with the Athletes.
I thought about this thread yesterday afternoon as I was on my way to the golf course. I had just gotten done listening to "The Essential Leonard Cohen", a double CD of his greatest songs. Cohen is the only person I can think of who can play an instrument (guitar)/sing (so he doesn't have the greatest voice in the world)/songwriter AND was a novelist. I am not a big reader but one of these days, I have to read one of his novels. The amazing thing about Cohen is that he will be 72 next year and I read somewhere that he plans on releasing another album! At any rate, I admire Leonard Cohen more than any other famous person with the exception of Christ. I would love to meet him before he dies. Oh and I can thank Batman Jones for turning me onto Leonard Cohen and his music. He knew I was (and still am) a Dylan fan and he also knew my eclectic tastes in music. He suggested I give Cohen's music a whirl. Batman, I just want to thank you because without your suggestion, I never probably would have bought a Cohen CD. Now, I am looking to finish buying the last 3 studio albums out of his 11. Thanks, so much man.
