Well..I guess I would call it over-rated if you were to rate it as the funniest show like I have heard from some folks/reviews before.. Is it clever? from what I have seen of it, and from the bits yall post here...yes, I agree that it is clever. and even amusing, I admitted that much. Funny thing is, I don't find Curb Your Enthusiasm very funny .. obviously, my humor gland is stuck on "weird" since I do love Mel Brooks, Monty Python, Police Squad\Zucker Bros and movies like Kentucky Fried Movie and Amazon Women on the Moon. If you take that as a representative sample of the style of comedy i like..I guess you could see why I like what I do..
I like Friends. But the older ones are really better. It has definitely run its course. However, they are doing a spinoff - "Joey" (a la "Fraiser" and "Cheers"). I also think the older ER's are good. I still love Cheers and The Cosby Show. They were both a little breakthrough...especially Cosby. It was a good show about a good family. Sometimes it's a little cheesy but it was and is a quality show. I do hate it however when Nick at Nite does this. Especially if it's with a show that I don't watch. Like, I never caught on to "All in the Family." It's not that I don't like it, I just never watched it and therefore I still don't. I like watching Cheers and Cosby and reminiscing (sp?). Not all popular shows are great. And not all great shows are popular.
To tell you the truth, I have never seen any of those shows or movies. :embarassed: I guess the reason I like Seinfeld is because it is clever. Like the Simpons. Simpsons is very clever. I dont' like funny sitcoms that are just full of jokes and one liners. I used to like Cheers, not so much anymore. I do like Family Guy, although I haven't see it lately. That show is very clever.
weird...I hadnt thought about it that way. I love clever cartoons..Family Guy, Simpsons, Futurama, and Animaniacs are all very clever shows.. I also enjoy Dennis Miller style standup..stuff that makes you think to get the joke. Why don't I enjoy clever shows like Seinfeld? Could it be that Jerry Seinfeld and Jason Alexander have always gotten on my nerves? I think we have a breakthrough.. I do enjoy Kramer, Elaine and the other wacky bit characters..but since Jerry and Jason Alexander are in sooo much of the shows, I cant properly enjoy the show? Hmm..
Family Guy...definitely the MOST underrated show ever! I need to get a FG quote into my sig to show my support, just like you and Oski have.. Ill have to work on that..Oski took the really good Stewie quote.
I'm with you, RM95. I never watched the show much when it was on, but I tried to watch it the other day and it was horrible. I didn't laugh a single time, and had to sit there and watch Bill make weird faces while the audience (or laugh track) guffawed. The only good thing that came of the Cosby Show was the impersonations it spawned on shows like The Simpsons and Family Guy.
Another vote for M*A*S*H. I never liked the movie or the TV show. Most underrated right now is Angel.
Lemme add in everything on Mtv. Also, the West Wing isn't just overrated, it's just utter crap. If I wanted to have an hour's worth of some junkie writer's ultra left wing agenda thrown in my face, Id move out to Zendik Farms.
I don't know, Surf Girls is pretty good. I gotta agree that Friends is vastly over rated. Horrible show, unless you're a high school chick. Others: MASH, West Wing, Sopranos, Sex in the City, all dating shows except Blind Date, all vote people out "reality shows" except Surf Girls, all WWE programming.
It's weird, out of all my conservative friends and family who watch or have watched The West Wing, they all absolutely love it...to a person.
