Crap! That reminds me.. Elvis is by FAR the most overrated artist of all time. Most overrated entertainer? No, I won't go that far.
I can't believe no one has mentioned 50 cent. This guy cannot rap. He leeches off of Dre's beats and rides Em's coattails. If not for In The Club (Dre supposedly had this hidden away in his personal stash and made 50 pay a hugeass amount for the right to use it), he would still be a nothing. Wanksta had a good beat too, but lyrics sucked ASS! I'm probably going to get flamed for this aren't I...
I saw a live performance on TV of her latest hitsong "white flag". It was just nothing. I also like simple songs, but this song is nothing. It is what our world is today.
For real Poem go for the "Forever Changes" Album from Love. Thats the great stuff. You may own it already.
i agree with you 100%. i personally hate 50 cent and his fake "gangta" image hes trying to show. Dre's beat really did make his song popular. ANY rapper combined with Dre's production will make it somewhat big. 50 cent was too hyped up and even though i love eminem, i think it was a horrible choice to put him on the aftermath family.
Who wrote In the Club then CAUSE IT DEFINATELY WAS NOT DRE DRE CANNOT RAP ANYTHING, ANYWAY, ANYWHO The Chronic is still the Product of the D O C - D O C the most ilfated nice rapper of all time - NOW IF U saying dre had that beat around. . . I can see that 50 Cent is this year's JA Rule both suck *ss and the fact that they beefin is just plain sad to me Rocket River
Yep. I mean hey, I know several fake gangsta's that have been shot 9 times. Anyway, back on track.... overrated, meaning rated too highly... hmmmmmmmm, Eagles, Springsteen, Bon Jovi, KISS, and the current Metallica line-up. More, but most already listed here... underrated is a longer list. Overrated Rappers? Too many to list since rap is all about the hype. Every new rapper is the "best" for a day. An underrated list is much, much shorter on this case. But that's another thread.
anyone that said the beatles, the stones or neil young are overrated doesnt know sh** about music. you should be ashamed of yourselves. im embarrased for you. the beatles were a once in a millenium musical and cultural phenomenon that will never be replicated. they did more for pop music than anyone ever will. can you think of anyone or anything that has had such an effect on our culture. sadly, when lennon said the beatles were bigger than jesus he was right. the stones did the same, but for rock n' roll. yes, they are now cheeseball geezers, but dont judge them by what they are now. go listen to exile on main street, let it bleed, sticky fingers...hell, even tatoo you from '82 had some good tunes (their last respectable record imo). the greatest rock and roll band ever. they represented what rock and roll was/is all about. keith richards maybe a drug addict a-hole, but he is a melodic savant genius. neil young is an angel amongst us. a gift from god. aside from his embarrasing collaboration with pearl jam and some mid-80's forrays into rockabilly he has done no wrong. continues to write beautiful country-rock ballads and has the voice of a rugged angel. my most overrated bands would be those current "garage rock revivalists". all hype and style, no substance or originality... strokes-rip off of television. just a bunch of pretty boy poseurs. interpol-rip off of early echo and the bunnymen (listen to the album crocodilles from 1980). white stripes-they are cool i guess, but do they really deserve all the hype? anyway you cut it that chick sucks on the drums!
Elvis changed music forever. His probably impacted modern music more than any other artist. I'm not talking about the old bloated Las Vegas Elvis but the young rockabilly innovater.
uummmm . . .er. . . mmmmmkay ANY WHOOOO MOST OVERRATE R FRICKIN KELLY I heard someone use the term GENIUS toward him I'm like you gotta be FRICKING KIDDING ME? The wanna be R&B HipHOPERA CRAP??? ALSO . . . MR BIGG RON ISLEY IS GREAT MR BIGG IS SH*T ON A STICK Rocket River
The beatles were big but Elvis absolutely did more -- he paved the way for people to be able to appreciate the Beatles. "Bigger than Jesus" I assume you are joking. Even the most popular musical artist is appreciated by only a small percentage of the population. The best selling Beatles album sold 18 million copies the bible is in 460 languages and 100's of millions of new copies are printed worldwide annually. -- We're talking about music here not eternity
And? Does that mean I have to like every one of their songs? Their history and impact on the industry is irrelevant to my personal opinion that a good 60% (conservative estimate) of their material ain't my thing. Ditto, but replace Stones with the Beatles.
I must have missed the post you quoted or I would have said something too. I've always thought Wynton was a bit overrated. I think Branford actually plays better jazz. My feelings on this matter can best be expressed by a soliloquy from the cult classic movie The Commitments: Jimmy Rabbitte: Elvis isn't soul. Jimmy Rabbitte, Sr.: Elvis is GOD! Jimmy Rabbitte: Well, I never pictured God with a fat gut and a corset singing "My Way" at Caesars Palace!
elvis kick-started the revolution and the beatles definately followed and were influenced by him, i agree. however, i would still say that the beatles made a bigger impact on pop culture. they broke the mold of what musicians traditionally did and were expected to do. can you name any elvis songs that he actually wrote? the beatles were the 1st act to take control of their music, from writing to producing to marketing. no doubt that they were following a precedent set by elvis, but they changed the way that all rock/pop groups after them would operate. they are anything but overrated. the "bigger than jesus" quote was from lennon on a mid-60's u.s. tour. although lennon deservedly took alot of criticsm for that remark, he was right. the beatles arguably had a bigger effect on 60's youth culture than jesus. you can trace all the hippie counter-culture movements directly back to the beatles. well, i guess jesus did have long hair and sandals so maybe it was him. jesus was the 1st hippie!
