More: Nirvana Grateful Dead Liz Phair Moby Outkast Again, all bands that I like but think are overrated. Just pick the recent Rolling Stone "Top 500 Albums of All Time" issue and you'll see a ton of overrated bands. Let me just add one overrated album: The Beach Boys' "Pet Sounds." Sick of hearing about that one all the time ...
Dave Matthews Band is definetly over-rated. So is Creed. I also don't get the what makes the Strokes so "ground-breaking". Anyone who appeared on American Idol is way over-rated. As for the Beatles, you guys need to do your research. No band or artist will ever accomplish what these guys accomlished in such a short amount of time. Their influence is everywhere. They opened doors that no one knew existed. They put out like 12 or 13 albums in a 6 year span. They have sold nearly 165 million albums, more than any artist ever. Their list of accomplishments goes on and on. Their influence is far-reaching. Over-rated? I think not.
Who is DMB overrated by? If you want to say their fans, then fine, but they're definitely not critic darlings like The Strokes, Radiohead, etc. The only album that hasn't been panned by some major critic is Busted Stuff, and even those reviews weren't exactly glowing.
Elvis Presley Anyone from American Idol JayZ Radiohead (post OK Computer) Audioslave Sugar Ray (who actually buys a Sugar Ray record and why?!?) Matchbox 20
I am glad that you posted this because people didn't see that when I say overrated, it means by the critics. Britney Spears, Linkin Park, etc are not bands/artists that I think the critics enjoy.
I rarely listen to the radio anymore....when I tuned in the other day....Sugar Ray was playing.....exact reason why I cant listen anymore....thank goodness for cd players Radiohead - disagree
Bruce Springsteen - a so-called "blue-collar" artist who writes about caracitures rather than characters and has the most bombastic, syrupy Andrew Lloyd Webber-esque musical arrangements in rock music. Savior of rock my ass. Elvis Presley - Musical imperialist; stole credit for the invention of rock and roll from more worthy artists (Little Richard, Chuck Berry, and - gulp - Ike Turner). Led Zepellin - I like alot of their stuff but again, musical imperialists. Their first albums were basically covers of obscure (and not so obscure) black blues artists and most of their later albums were boring. However, Led Zepellin IV deserves its accolades. The Fugees/Lauryn Hill - Canonized for an album that was most distinguished by two cover songs. Lauryn Hill was anointed the queen of hip-hop and thus everybody was too busy praising her to notice that her first solo album was a tuneless piece of crap. Eminem - Has the most unlistenable voice in rap and is the equivalent of bad 80s shred guitarists (lots of speed but no soul). Proof that music education has all but disappeared from school. Wynton Marsalis - Along with Stanley Crouch, responsible for the ultra-conservative trend in jazz that ignores anything made after 1963. Has turned jazz from a vibrant, ever-morphing art form into a dead tradition.
Phish, String Cheese Incident, or any of those other bands people follow around and spin in circles at their shows.
The Strokes and the White Stripes. I just don't understand the big deal about either. Sean Paul - Please, just go away!!!
Never understood the fuss about radiohead. I got their second to last CD solely on their rep and it has no use other than to put me to sleep.
imo… no no hell no. very talented. not really. sure he samples a lot of stuff, but to put turn it into something completely different and makes it sound new the way that he does is great. nah. lead singer’s voice is amazing. they just keep going and going. good stuff although kinda wussy. nope. nappyheads and vocab from blunted on reality were great, the score album was magnificent, and lauryn's album was a masterpiece. pras and wyclef suck individually though. too many bands to list that are overrated.
how many songs have you listened by eminem? if you only listen to the fun singles he releases every time he puts out a album, then yea i get what you are saying, but seriously eminem is a genious. listen to his CDs and listen to the lyrics. you tell me what other rappers besides biggie and tupac and em that can lace and rhyme lyrics that well and say some deep stuff. the guy knows how to speak his mind and he isn't one of those other rappers who all talk about the money women and cars. The guy raps about life and he is considered an outlet for many people across this country. plus he has really gotten far in the production industry. his beats are simply amazing.
