How the heck is Brandon Roy and Joe Johnson overrated? They're robbed of all-star seats, along with Deron. I think Chris Bosh is underrated. Amare is overrated, and so is Carmelo.
I mean seriously...how am I supposed to respond to this? You're basically saying its okay if the guy gets overpaid then loses and underachieves just as long as he goes elsewhere and wins thus becoming validated. Sure, it's on McHale for giving him that contract in the first place. I'm not saying it's not, however what are you supposed to do whenever your franchise player, that some believe is one of the most unique talents in NBA history, demands a [then] unheard of contract....what are you supposed to do -- let him walk? He gave in, paid the guy then hoped he lived up to the hype. People seem to turn a blind eye to how badly he hamstringed everything McHale was able to do as a GM which is precisely why I refuse to make excuses for him. He made his bed. It's not really a big deal now since the salary cap gradually increases yearly so massive contracts like that are more absorbent, however they weren't at the time whenever the salary cap was still in the $40M range. Besides, how many teams can build exclusively through cheap talent? Cheap talent is usually "cheap" for a reason and due to the Joe Smith scandal building through the draft wasn't an option either.
Nobody knows who Jamal Crawford is, even if they do they all know him for being a streak shooter and scorer and that's exactly what he is. Tayshaun Prince is underrated on offense, but vastly overrated on defense.
Lets say Morey gives Artest a huge contract next summer and he doesn't live up to it. I'm going to be mad at Morey because it is his job to evaluate the talent and how much the team should pay him. Players will always go after as much money as possible, whether they are worth it or not. If McHale didn't feel KG could win with garbage teammates (which no one EVER does) then maybe he should have let him walk or explored sign and trade options. Again...salaries? rosters? talent scouting?...that's not KG's job. He's done the most that anyone can do in the game of basketball, lead a team to an NBA championship. Kevin Mchale, however, continues to be a bad General Manager...and i would say its obvious that the losing in Minnesota is more linked to him than KG. I'm sure this is a much bigger deal to you than it is to me so i won't continue and let this become an argument.
