watched it in a sociology class at Baylor. some 77 years after the movie was released, i was still offended.
You know what? I don't want to get too D&D forumish here, but films like this should be required viewing. They give a wonderful insight into the popular mindset and opinions of the time of their release that history books can't provide. Another film with racial issues is The Mask of Fu Manchu. It plays on anti-Chinese and anti-Asian sentements though. There are all sorts of devices to show how depraved the Chnese people are, and how they want to "rise up against the white race". Of course the two major Chinese characters are played by Boris Karloff and Myrna Loy... But I'm suprised nobody's mentioned the original gay cowboy flick, Midnight Cowboy. The only X-rated film to win an Oscar.
Salo by Passolini takes the cake for me. Then it is closely followed by Visitor Q by Takashi Miike. The last movie to bug me out was Irriversible. I almost turned it off in the first 5 minutes. Couldnt stand it, looked to real. The Postman by Kevin Costner was the only movie Ive ever walked out off. My parents and I couldnt get a refund. On a side note my girlfriend threw up during the final minutes of Oldboy. She was also disturbed (but in a good way) by Requiem for a Dream. Perhaps the best anti-drug movie ever made.
there was a movie that just came out this year or last year, called 'chaos'. i never saw it, but my friend saw it and said he turned it off because it was so unneccessary and sick. basically, what i think it's about is some girls leave a party with a stranger and then the stranger like rapes and tortures them for the rest of the movie or something like that. sounds horrible and offensive. has anyone seen it?
Sounds something like "The Last House on the Left" edit - Yeah I just looked on imdb http://imdb.com/title/tt0068833/ and it is mentioned in the reader review. I never saw Last House but my older brother who was somewhat of a horror movie enthusiast told me never to ever watch it, I get chills just reading what people who have watched it say. Disturbing stuff.
Dude, that one is my favorite episode. I love that girl Ava. But I do agree with you. That show is horrible. One, I don't give a **** how much money people have.
birth of a nation and last temptation of christ i actually like this movie except when someone mentions that this is a great depiction of jesus christ bec. it shows his human side supposedly.
regular history books already depict the harsh racism and reality. I don't think the sentiment of the time and the added insult of the lies really helps society as of today.
