There is truth to this statement. But all too often in the past when his jumper wasn't falling he didn't do what everyone says you should do and go aggresively and as often as one can to the basket. I don't remember which game it was this season, but the Rockets were playing well and Bill Worrel said (paraphrased), "I could see that look on McGrady's face when they came out for the warmups..." It no doubt was a serious, game face. This is what I'd like to see for the rest of the season. His teammates should be able to see THAT in his face until there are NO more games to play. I remember Sam Cassell talking about Hakeem before a playoff game against San Antonio when David Robison got the MVP or Defensive Player of the Year award -- I don't recall which. Sam said he could see a focus and seriousness in Hakeem's face before that game. And Hakeem said (paraphrased again), "He's getting my award." And Cassell, said he said to himself, "Uh, oh!" Dream proceeded to go out and pretty much humiliate David Robinson. After the game Robinson said no one had ever scored on him like that before. This is the heart, I think, Will and Rockets fans are looking for. If I see THAT and the Rockets don't win a championship I will still have utmost respect for T-mac. During all those years that Hakeem didn't get to the championship we all could SEE THAT heart. THAT heart, is why so many here liked Bobby Sura.
Reflecting on his five previous series with Toronto, Orlando and Houston, he added: “I know looking back, I was always the underdog. Each time the team that beat us was the better team. I think that this is the year I have the supporting cast.” lots of I's in this sentence... I look at it as Tmac trying to pump himself up... I have waited all year for Tmac to take control of this years team... in my eyes... he has done so... thems big words from Tmac... I expect no less than him willing the team to advance in the first round ....atleast... if he fails here... no excusses...he must take responsiblitiy...
I nearly bust a gut last night when, after McGrady rolled his ankle and limped to the bench, Bull mentioned something to the effect of "he got his feelings hurt."
Maybe we can instill some agent zero into T-mac. That will it will be him against the world for the rest of the season.
There were many games where T-Mac has had that killer look but still sucked. While I generally agree that T-Mac should drive more, it should be noted that other teams generally do a very good job of showing hard on T-Mac off the screen. It has already been noted that T-Mac is relatively not a great finisher compared to other superstars. Basically how "great" T-Mac can be is up to his jumper in my opinion. T-Mac is a star all-around player and will contribute with his athleticism and his play-making, but when his Jumper is going down he is amazing. T-Mac's jumper has been on when he has had the killer look, but he's also had great jump-shooting games with that lackadaisical look. Motivation shouldn't be an issue in the playoffs. Everybody tries hard. It's all about trying to impose what you've been doing well all year, and if that doesn't work, adjust. Execution and adjustments.
