You think so? Greeeat. Do you really think someone making $30,000 a year contributes anywhere near as much as I do, in total tax outlays? Do you think this hypothetical person is more or less likely than me to use government services...?
If Brian's paying 28% average income tax (income > $292K per the chart!) I expect he's paying well more than his 'share.' Higher income earners generally do. (Kind of hard to have the lower income people pay their share if they don't have the money to do so). The policy question is how much more than their share should the higher income people pay. I'm all for taxing the rich. (Rich defined as people who make more than I do). But I cannot question that most pay more than their proportional share of their 'use' of resources.
I don't think he's arguing that. I think he's aruging that a person making 30k/yr may contribute at a higher percentage.
Thanks for your sarcasm, I'm not sure if it's merited as you're the one who started off alluding to your high tax bracket and condescendingly informing RR how much richer you were than him. If you like we can whip out 1040's and see who pays the most-est. I just wanted to let you know that us east coast liberals bring home the bacon too as well as contribute our share. (and tend to get disproportionately socked by the AMT but that's another matter) That's what I'm asking...for you to account for the government services that you use.
I knew-- absolutely knew-- that there was no way we could touch on this subject without it being characterized as "condescending". Touchy, touchy feely. PS-- bnb, that's not the chart I drew my tax bracket figure from. I don't make anywhere near $292,000 because THE MAN IS KEEPING ME DOWN.
