Curse you... but sadly, its somewhat true. I've never heard of a lot of the song you people are posting up. I think people may be confusing "most iconic" with "best." Iconic songs are the ones people will remember the 2000s for. If no one has heard of your song, it's not iconic, no matter how good a song it is. Here's my songs: Sexy Back - Justin Timberlake Apologize - OneRepublic ft. Timbaland Single Ladies - Beyonce Cupid Shuffle - Cupid Drop It Like Its Hot - Snoop Dogg Pop Lock It Drop It - Huey Yeah - Usher Baby - Justin Bieber In The End - Linkin Park Lose Yourself - Eminem In Da Club - 50 cent Sk8er Boi - Avril Lavigne Love Story - Taylor Swift With You - Chris Brown Here It Goes Again - OK Go I Kissed a Girl - Katy Perry Just Dance - Lady Gaga I'm Yours - Jason Mraz Bye Bye Bye- N'Sync Oops I Did It Again - Brittany Spears Beautiful - Christina Aguilera Hey Ya - OutKast Crazy - Gnarles Barkley ...Ok, so I started on the list and realized that I don't know where to stop. Basically, just picture yourself 20 years from now watching "I love the 2000's" on VH1 and imagine celebrities making jabs at popular music of this decade. Those are your iconic songs.
fixed, and I also predict that "Empire State of Mind" by Alicia Keyes and JayZ is going to be around for a loooooong time.

False. And I suppose The Flaming Lips, Modest Mouse, and The Shins will be remembered.....nobody knows who those bands are outside of your indie rock crew Although very mainstream, Linkin Park has brought something new/fresh to the music industry. Not to mention Chester has an outstanding voice. Incubus has done the same....

Thank God for opinions. On Linkin Park I do have do agree they are the U2 of our generation. Just like I think U2 is vastly overrated. Influential because of dominance not be cause they're sound is revolutionary. Like I said. It's about Iconic songs. Not about songs that YOU like. If you play flaming lips in front of 100 random strangers, about only 10 people will know who it is. If you play the thong song, 90 people will be able to sing along. That's sad but it is Iconic.
After all the work that Coldplay has done to be EXACTLY like U2, you give the title to Linkin Park. Kudos.
I agree. Coldplay is the closest thing to this generation's U2. Chris Martin even dances like Bono on stage. Both are masters of the arena rock. Linkin Park isn't even half the band that Coldplay is. LP released like one good album more than 5 years ago, and have been irrelevant ever since.
moes' list is what I wish people would remember from the decade, but I'm more inclined to believe they will remember the list that liljojo posted a few posts above.
They're style is the same but I respect cold play more because they have true talent. Musically they have great skill and U2...not so much. to me personally. I just don't think Cold play is as douche a band as Linkin park or U2.
haha just because a band doesn't make music that you like all of a sudden they are not talented? If U2 does not have any talent, then what exactly DO they have that has allowed them to be relevant for 20+years?
I think a lot of their success comes from their humanitarian work. It made the band bigger than their music. Without it they're probably just another popular band, and they wouldn't have enjoyed the longevity that they did.
I think good music is undiscovered at the time, but becomes iconic later on. I truly think the indie rock that was produced this decade will stand up a lot better than the 50 Cents and the Nickelbacks and the Linkin Parks. Agree that Coldplay is this generation's U2. If I had to pick one Coldplay song that was "iconic" I guess it would probably have to be "Clocks" or "Yellow", even though I don't really like either of those songs.
