not trying to be a jerk..but..the whole, "deciphering my reason" thing is a little silly. i'm telling you how i FEEL about a freaking pro sports franchise. i'm not proving up a contract or working through an equation, here. it's subjective opinion based on my own feelings. there's a reason for my feelings...but they don't necessarily apply to anyone else.
All I've got to say is (and I realize no one has asked what I've got to say ): They gots to start somewhere. This team's first Larry Dierker, Earl Campbell, Rudy Tomjanovich, etc. has yet to manifest himself. I bet you, however, that when the first of these statement players arrives (and he's prolly already here), the team will still be mired in some bad losing. And he'll be a huge part of bringing the team out of the dung pile (Munchak/Matthews, anyone?). One day, we may be talking about Demeco and Mario in the same way--although that's getting harder and harder with the salary structure and all. _______________________________________________________ As far as the Texans doing stupid stuff and the Rockets and Astros being established due to longevity: Nolan Ryan Joe Morgan Rusty Staub Kenny Lofton Curt Schilling (to a lesser extent) Johan Santana Bobby Abreu Caminiti AND Finley for (essentially) Derrick 6-4-3 Bell ....you lovin' it, yet? Rashard Lewis Richard Jefferson (now, I'm sure there are much better examples, but I'm not so versed on Rox lore) They all make their blunders. I remember fans swearing they'd never support the Astros again back in '89 (or was it '88). Give this franchise time. They got it right with Demeco; they got it right with Duante; they'll get it right some more in the future (and they'll blow it some more in the future).
Yea, I respect that... I get carried away sometimes. Everything here is subjective... but when you were questioning fan's loyalties because the franchise had only been around 5 years, it just struck a nerve. It reminded me of all those Astros/Rockets bandwagon fans that weren't there 5-10 years ago when both of those teams were threatening to move (of course I'm not saying you were one of them... in fact I know you're the furthest thing from it... which made it all that more noticeable). I guess you're right... when a local NFL team, the most popular league on earth, is able to lose a "blind" homer like yourself... you know the team is having some serious issues. Man, it will be fun when they win someday... will they be the next Tampa Bay Yuckaneers (who eventually win, 25 years in), or will they be the next Arizona Cardianls (who may never ever ever win... and they happen to be one of the oldest franchises around).
The guy is just a champion!!!!! He will eventually have a Super Bowl Trophy in his hand...named after "Vince" Lombardi!!!
Congratulations Nick: you just named the only two things that could possibly be worse than being the next Oilers. I'm not sure if I feel better now or not.
MadMax, doesn't the name Houston Texans mean anything to you? HOUSTON. Hello? Heck, I live in KATY and I love my HOUSTON teams. I don't care if they're 0-162, 0-82, 0-16, 0-32-0... they're still HOUSTON. F*ck, man, why can't people see that?!?!?!?!? Stick with your team!!
geez, sticking with a team that goes 0-fer doesnt make you a good fan, in fact it makes u a blindsided fan. if fans get fed up with a teams poor performance, they dont buy tickets, equals owners dont make (as much) money, equals changes in the organization. which is what the texans need
VY debacle >>>>>>>>>>>>> breakdown against the bills... the VY debacle stings more because it has elements of hypocrisy and irony "Texans" lets not draft the superstar mega-monster that acually is a texan. VY then comes back and proves that he is more a Texan than the "Texans" will ever be. "Texans" should be re-named to the suits. or maybe they should keep the irony thing going and be called the houston "geniuses"
It makes you neither. Both sides of this argument need to drop the melodramatic bull**** and realize it's nothing but an entertainment choice.
The SB wasn't the end. The Bucs SUCK again. Hard. Until that SB, the Bucs were the joke of the league. Do you remember those days? Do you remember the one playoff run per decade (or so it seemed) that would end in the first round, and *everybody* knowing that first of all they wouldn't make it, and second of all they'd lose at least 9 games the next season anyway? Perhaps it "made that SB even sweeter", but I'll take the Luv Ya Blue era coupled with the Warren Moon era every day of the week over the 70s, 80s, and 90s that were "enjoyed" by Bucs fans.
For some people, the name on the jersey is less important than the person behind it. msn said it best: it's a freaking entertainment choice. Why do people care so much who other people root for?
