hey I met VY, granted I just said Hi when he got into his Chromed out Yukon, but he smiled at me! why would the buffalo thing be more humiliating? cause we lost to a back up QB? at least it wasnt in the House of Pain. Oh my bad that was Montana.
A "one-time deal"??? The rabid fan support (which had been there for 20 years) was never the same after that game. In fact, a case can be made that "35-3" directly or indirectly lead to the Oilers leaving town. If not for that loss, the city may have been more open to bud and his bonehead idea of building a football/basketball stadium and maybe the Oilers would still be here. I really don't think the Texans are going to leave town any time soon. [insert predictable and lame joke about wishing they would]
Potential is not reality. And the Oilers were once in a lifetime choke artists. I doubt we will see a game like Buffalo anytime soon.
Both only your opinions. We don't know if thats going to happen....if he will stun the Texans EVERY time we play him. I highly doubt that. And the big COULD word is what kills this poll man. Come back in 10 years and this might be legitimate. Otherwise....NOT EVEN CLOSE. .....
Ok the Buffalo one was the worst of the Chokes. But we got David Robinsoned by some Hakeems like JOHN ELWAY AND JOE MONTANA. no shame in that.
The only argument for the Texans draft being worse is that it happened in 2006. The Buffalo choke happened in 1992 - 14 years ago. Time heals. I think the Buffalo choke will be forgotten by all except former Oilers fans and Bills fans who were alive at the time. I think passing on VY and Reggie will go down in history a la the Blazers passing on Michael Jordan. Every NFL fan alive and born in the future will know the Houston Texans were run by some dumb mofos.
Except for the 'greatest collapse in NFL playoff history' part of the equation, for which it will keep getting mentioned for future generations. This is a no brainer - the Buffalo game. It wasn't just a collapse. We'd beaten Buffalo already. We'd been knocking on the door before that. It was our year. The loss became an indictment of the Run -N- Shoot (unfairly IMO), of our whole philosophy of football.
I - D - I - O - T (no offense, but you are) btw- If you are too young to have had any care, or knowledge of the Oilers' loss, don't vote... or get a clue. This current Houston franchise hasn't had the time to get out of the Tampa Bay mode yet... let them grow up first and do something before giving them such significance. In the history of Houston pro football, one thing will forever be mentioned as the most humiliating event... and it will always be a game. 2nd, 3rd, 4th......1,000th will have been on the field as well... with hardly a mention of the Texans as it stands now. When the Texans become a relevant force in the division, wake us up.
No. I think I know my family better than you. They were cheering for the Texans and for VY. They hate Carr and wanted McNair to see how much of an idiot he is. Oh, and they pre-ordered the jerseys on draft day. So I'd prefer if you didn't assume anything.
Exactly how I feel. I understand where Max is coming from. However, if those who rooted for the Titans yesterday, go back to rooting for the Texans once they are good, then that is the purest definition of "bandwagon".
then i might be a bandwagon fan one day. because i don't love the titans. i'm just interested in watching VY..and rooting for him. if he gets traded, i'll root for that team, too. without VY, i don't care one bit for the titans. and i don't know how i'll feel about the texans in 5 years. i do hope they improve, because my older son loves them. so label away. and i still won't care.
The impact won't be the same as if you saw it live. It was bad. Really bad. However I think the Kansas City choke was worse...at home with Ryan's 46 defense.
I think based on how you become a fan of a team, you might be relegated to being a bandwagon fan of the Texans for a long time. Not that there's anything wrong with that But shoot, you're not a bandwagon fan in every sport...and you know a lot about the sports...so whatever.
You certainly do care about the Texans... whether you realize it or not... and they will capture your attention every year (regardless of how bad or good they are). In fact, you probably spend more time analyzing them than most of the actual fans who still continue to buy tickets... the fact that the Texans' decisions have stirred up such emotions here indicates one thing: Houston cares a ton about the NFL... and they're still better off having a team than not having one. (even if that team has no identity, has monkeys running the asylum, and is as badly put together as... uhh... the new Cleveland Browns)
The Bills choke hurt bad...but I think it was the KC choke the next year that killed my spirit (as it related to the Oilers). I think it dawned on me then and there that the team just wouldn't get there. Of course, a short while later, I found out just how true that was.
