Exactly. And no one can tell me what kind of attachment I have to a team that's only five years old. I love the Texans, warts and all. If you don't feel anything for the Texans and want to go root for VY or whichever team, fine. Just don't root against them now, then expect to comeback when they are good and not hear **** about it.
Soooo, if I understand you correctly here, Ricky Bobby was in charge of the Texans draft and he messed up because Ricky Bobby is not a thinker - Ricky Bobby is a driver. Correct?
And that's why the bandwagons have to be so wide - to make it easier for folks to jump on and off and back on (and back off)...
Definitely the stance I have... I enjoy seeing Vince succeed as much as the next guy, and if anybody could actually make me stomach that Titans franchise again... it would be him. That being said, there's no reason to ridicule those who choose to be loyal, or even make fun of loyalties made in just 5 years. What do you want people to do?... wait 20 years before they start getting emotionally involved in a team? And you know it would be tremendously different if the team was winning... simply typifying what people already have known about Houstonians (they support teams like crazy when they do well... but if a team looks poor, never succeeded, or hadn't succeeded in 10 or so years... they'll have their work cut out for them).
A true Texans fan would welcome those "bandwagon fans" to the fold when the team is winning, because having more fans and a better atmosphere is best for the team, and that's what a real fan would want. If you plan to give **** to those fans, sounds to me like you're not a real Texans fan.
I'll welcome them. With a bit of hazing. Speaking of the NFL draft, which we weren't, but you shoulda started that other guy yesterday.
tinman isn't a real VY fan. He doesn't understand that "35-3" was infinitely more devastating to the Oilers (VY's new team, after all) than yesterday's regular season loss could ever be to the Texans. Any REAL Oiler/titan fan could see that. tinman isn't a real VY fan.
This is a ridiculous poll. Vince Young and Reggie Bush could be decimated by injuries and end up like Sam Bowie and Ralph Sampson and Mario Williams could end up being the next Reggie White. Its waaaay too earlier to consider the 2006 draft the most humiliating Houston football event.
i don't think this was a humiliating moment for houston since everyone was cheering for vince after the run.
I can't believe this thread was even started. The VY thing was mildly to moderately embarassing. The Buffalo game was a collapse of record-setting, franchise-relocating, epic proportions. After the VY touchdown, I was angry for an hour or two. After the Buffalo game, I was physically ill for two days. This is not even close. The Buffalo game was more than the most humilating Houston football event: it was quite possibly the most humiliating event in the history of professional sports. Worse than Bill Buckner in the 1986 World Series. Worse than the Black Sox in 1919. The only thing that comes close is the Yankees massive choke job against the Red Sox in 2004. But I think the Oiler game is worse, because it came at the hands of a backup QB (Frank Reich).
Buffalo. No contest. Losing to Vince, for the second time this year, isn't going to be more than an afterthought in the annals of Texans' history. The loss to Buffalo sent an entire franchise packing its bags. Not. Even. Close.
I don't know. The long term effects of the VY disaster are much more permanent since he plays in the same division as the Texans. They'll have to face him twice a year for the next 10 years. Meanwhile, the Oilers' 35-3 debacle was a one-time deal thanks to Jim Eddy, and they were 12-4 the following season under Buddy Ryan's defense.
A 12-4 team which then lost to a 65 year old Joe Montana with a tumor on his elbow. And who could forget Buddy Ryan trying to punch out Kevin Gilrbide on Monday Night Football? Ahh, such warm memories those Oilers gave us.
Buffalo hands down. The future is unknown, but that Buffalo game had significant meaning that year. This game was a reflection on what could have been, but we'll never know will we?
I remember at halftime they interviewed Bill Cowhere and asked him what he thought about facing the Oilers in the AFC Championship game. That would have been an interesting Oilers-Steelers matchup.
