Don't you think it was different though? Sure people may have criticized him more often but i think people generally thought he just couldn't get it done. With Tracy there's the constant what if's. Back then when i talked about the rockets with people they would say, "Francis sux cause he's shooting poorly and over dribbling the ball". With Tracy they say "Tmac is a B*tch he whines, he has no heart, and he doesn't attack the basket enough." The criticisms of Tmac are mostly personal.
There are so many new people here who do know about the Steve criticism. I think Rafer is the second one.
It has to be steve all the way...
how is T-Mac winning???
Its really hard to be the most loved/most hated rocket of the past decade, or at least the first half of it, and Steve Francis did just that....
Does anyone make a big deal about SF3 never getting out of the first round? NO. T-mac is criticized nationally and internationally for never getting out of the first round. Thats worse than some houston fans thinking SF3 dribbles too much.
Looking at the poll results so far, this appears to be true. Pre-2005 members tend to vote for Francis. Post-2006 registrations overwhelmingly vote for McGrady.
Dude has had seven tries. SEVEN. He's blown series leads and homecourt advantage in them multiple times. Can any other player of his stature boast of such an "accomplishment?" Francis played for some horrible Rockets teams and got two years with a young Yao Ming.
I'd definitly have to lean towards Tmac. I mean yeah Stevie was scrutinized but when you think about it T is the most talented of the two and much more is expected of him, not get to the playoffs and be a one and done team. I think because T is the better player the blame of the losses will always lay on his shoulders and unless we win a championship before T's tenure ends here he will be ridiculed for his inability to get us to the promised land.
They both get criticized often - SF for some bonehead decisions and T-Mac for not getting out of the first round.... Are people really arguing over who the most criticized player is? Does it really matter?
dude on this board, steve got crucified for not making the playoffs, even though up until this past season they had the best record to not make the playoffs in steve's second year, and won 44 games the first year with yao after the migrane season
Locally, its Stevie. I remember things were pretty bad before the Jeff Van Gundy years, but still pretty mixed. Once JVG it there was consensus hate, that wasn't totally deserve but had alot of truth in its root. Nationally its T-Mac, without a doubt. Alot of that is because his failings are more public because they revolve around the playoffs, and I think the growth of sports media since coming over to the Rockets
For me it's TMac because I think we, in general, expect more from him, therefore are more critical of him.
people actually have hate for tracy on this board. even a hardcore rockets fan like DD thought tmac faked injuries last yr... the things people make up about tmac go beyond just criticism. francis may be criticized, but the things people say about tmac (someone still say he's selfish and is a me-mac) is just ridiculous.
Then maybe its more about this board because i have never heard the same TYPE of criticisms with as much personal disdain about stevie as i have for Tracy.
Yeah, obviously people on this board have hate for T-Mac lol. But, what you have to understand is, if you read this board between the years of 2002-2004, fans were ready to crucify Steve Francis. Especially during that one JVG year. YIKES!!
As far as Tracy goes, I don't know what to say about his "injuries", but let's just say I hope they don't keep reoccurring .
And as a side note, I would have to agree that while Francis was the most criticized player in houston, McGrady is arguably the most criticized player in the NBA right now. A crown he gets to take over from Kevin Garnett....
but u gotta understand the city of houston as a whole still really appreciates steve francis. he's very loyal to this city so nobody really dislikes steve. alston was getting destroyed for his play too. getting criticized for your play is nothing. i'm saying the myths people can come up with tmac go BEYOND what he does on the court (faking injuries, don't get along with teammates, why not sit on the bench when injured? not clapping on the bench -> he hates his teammates, not high-fiving yao at times -> he has problems with yao...) most of the things talked about tmac don't even relate to what he does on the court.
Exactly. I don't get why so many people make it personal with T-Mac. Like they actually know the guy and knows exactly what goes through his mind. At the end of the day, its just a basketball game. T-Mac can't do anything without somebody criticizing him. He could find the cure for AIDS and then get flamed for not finding the cure quick enough.
