Hmm there should be a poll on what do you think fast it?

    65 - 70
    70 - 75
    75 - 80
    80 - 85

To be honest I cruise on the freeway between 75-85... And that does not feel fast at all. So yes I'm usually on the left lane catching up to people but normally they see a big ass van and move to the right. Whoever brought up that article on Germany's autobahn is correct. There are less accidents on the Autobahn than on US highway systems. It's a fact look it up. Both my in-laws work for Txdot and can also agree with that statement. Americans in general are just not use to the speed or there are to many dumb drivers here not realizing when to switch lanes.

Can you imagine a autobahn type lane on 59 or I-10 lol... Man that would be awesome.

No I'm not young I'm in my 30's and I have not had a speeding or accident ticket in 15 YEARS!!!! (knock on wood)

I'm using "you" as a generalized "you" of people who want me to get out of the left lane so they can proceed unimpeded. The "you" is directed at you simply because I was talking to you. I understand you're not a speedster.

Conversely, I am a speeder. I usually drive around 80 and it is often the case that I come across someone going slower than me in the fast lane. But, I know better than to think that my speed (uhm, I mean "the efficiency of the road") takes some sort of moral precedence over whatever it is they're doing. So, I'll slow down or change lanes when I encounter them. Moreover, I understand that my fast driving habits are a bigger imposition on them than their safe driving (damn, I mean "inefficient use of the road") is on me.

No, you're supposed to do it for your own safety and the safety of those on the road with you. If a guy's swerving all over the road, you'd move out of his way.

That speeding is illegal is irrelevant to the topic.

There are too many to choose from.

For now I'll go with people who never use turn signals, or better yet, only use turn signals WHILE turning.

The whole point of a signal is to signal your intent. If you're already in the act of turning left... people can see you're turning left, believe it or not.

The law as written in Texas

I guess the passing lane is horribly misused by everybody. It's a speed limit, not a speed minimum.

I usually jump to the left on 59 before I hit the Chimney Rock exit to avoid all the people who wait til the last minute to exit to 610. And then I misuse it by staying in it til I get on the 527 spur to Midtown.

That's a bad comparison...if a guy is swerving all over the road of course I'll get out of his way. But I'm not gonna get out of the way of somebody driving faster than me when I'm already going over the limit if A) I get into the left lane to pass someone or B) if the right lane is full of traffic moving slower than me and it makes no sense to stay there.

And speeding is very much a relevant part of this conversation. As I said I'm not gonna risk getting a ticket or driving beyond my comfort zone just because the idiot behind me is in such a rush.

Wow, you guys have serious road anger issues. I'm usually real chill when I drive. As long as you don't hit me, I don't care how you are driving and I definitely won't let it bother me. I see so many frustrated looks on drivers during traffic and It just makes me laugh. Another thing that makes me laugh is the people that drive all fast, cut people off and then slam their brakes because a red light is ahead. So we all end up at the same spot, only I didn't have to look like a dumbass.

You are a terrible driver and don't abide by the number one rule of driving: Drive as if everyone else on the road were an idiot.

You have no idea what type of driver I am so stop making assumptions.

And you may be reading my posts, but you don't seem to be comprehending them. I never said I drive in the left all the time, I never said I'll jump into the left to cut someone off who's going faster than me, and of course I've said plenty that I don't really speed. All I said is that when I am in the left lane, passing someone in the right lane, and another car that's traveling faster than me creeps up behind me, I'm gonna take care of my business first, pass the car in the right lane, and when it's safe to move over I will. I will not speed up and I will not squeeze back over into the right lane if there's no room just so that care behind doesn't have to slow down. You just seem to have complete disregard for the fact that the other car is needlessly speeding.

Some of my pet peeve drivers:

    1) Have to get to the left lane no matter what upon entering the freeway, double the prize if it's a heavy truck (18 wheeler, dump truck, etc...)
    2) Stopping traffic and getting over to the exit they are about to miss since they are using talking on the phone or in the left lane
    3) Refusing to let you in on a merge, then later you see they need to merge and are furious that no one is letting them in
    4) "Rubber necking" especially if the accident is on the other side. Also, cops with radar

In the end, just relax and get to your destination, there more important things in life than getting upset over driving.
