I do admit that driving "fast" is not for everyone. There is a time and a place for everything. Knock on wood, but I've never been in an accident. Also, I have gotten one speeding ticket in my entire life, while I was driving to Waco from when I went to Baylor. There is an effective and safe way of driving fast.
Haha, no, that is called luck. One day, your luck will run out. Trust me. There are so many things that can happen from driving fast.
No, luck applies to everyone. You could be driving under the limit and something unlucky could happen to you. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a race car driver. I do not take unnecessary risks. In fact, I've had to make miraculous maneuvers to avoid getting into an accident. There are some terrible drivers in Houston. How one doesn't check their blind spot before changing lanes baffles me.
Mr. looking ahead of you to determine what YOU should be doing ahead of him. Mr. Tailgater, and I assume that you are both of these if you are annoyed with the other types of drivers you listed.
Right, but speeding results in a higher risk of accidents than non-speeding. I drive 65-70 most of times. I don't feel the need to speed unless I'm really late but I'm too chicken to speed....thinking something will happen if I speed.
>65 is speeding in harris county i try not to drive over 80, occasionally i may suffer from the heavy foot, but i correct myself immediately when i notice it it's always different on interstate, 90+ isn't uncommon in those territories
It's called an analogy. And, yes, you or someone else is more likely to die if you don't move over. If someone's going to kill you if you don't move over, you'll refuse to move over?
That does seem like common sense, but I decided to google it any ways. This article talks about the autobahn - LINK - It suggests that Germans think that 81 mph is optimal speed and that the death rate on the autobahn is actually much less than on American roads. Another article I found confirms the obvious. Paying attention is more valuable than speed. Texting, etc will increase the chance of an accident more than speed perhaps ?LINK I found another article from 2006 that says that 3 % of accidents in the UK were a result of speeding and 7 % were speeding for conditions - LINK
I hate people driving in my blind spot. It's pretty annoying when they keep the same speed as you and stay in that same blind spot, I eventually just move to another lane or slow down.
If you honestly think you're being "safe" by weaving in and out of drivers going far faster than the flow of traffic, you're an idiot.
People in Germany, the UK, and Scandinavia are far better trained to drive than Americans. Driving fast is only dangerous in bad weather and when the road is full of morons.
Ah I get it, so I'm supposed to bend over backwards to please the people who feel like driving at unsafe speeds. Yes I can control my own driving, but so can the person doing the speeding too. If you read my post, I stated that I'm rarely in the left lane. In fact I'm hardly ever there because usually I'm positioning myself to get off the freeway. And when I'm on the interstate I pretty much just hang out in the right lane. But again, if I need to get in the left to pass, I sure as hell am not gonna put my life nor my family's at risk by driving at speeds that are uncomfortable to me; I'm also not gonna risk getting a ticket. I'm gonna drive at the same speed I was when in the right lane (which is usually 5 over). Now if I get caught next to a car, sure I'll then speed up so as not to block traffic. But I'm not gonna go faster just to please the people behind me who are driving as fast as they possibly can. Sure you can make an argument that by driving slower I'm risking causing accident. Shoot that's why they have minimum speed limits; yet when I drive I'm far from that bottom threshold. And if the person behind me wasn't breaking the law by excessively speeding, there wouldn't be a risk of an accident. Now, I did check the transportation code...it's kind of vague, but it does say that slower cars stay to the right, which I do when I can. But it also says that an exception to the above rule is for one, when you are passing. So if I get into the left lane to pass, I certainly do not have to follow the flow of the traffic if that traffic is illegally speeding. And you know something else, if I'm going over the speed limit, and I come up to a vehicle that is traveling slower but not necessarily under the limit, I don't have any problem with changing lanes and going around if I'm on the freeway. And if this is an interstate, well again, I don't have a problem going a littler slower until that car gets to a safe enough distance to get back into the right lane. If the car is going excessively slow that's another story, but if they're going at least the speed limit, and they are in the left lane to pass, they are not doing anything wrong.
Forget waving you through..they get there first but expect you to go, so now you're stuck in a stalemate.
