Mosquitos in Houston are really bad. I have seen worth in South America.... but the absolute worst are in Alaska.

    **** that noise.

It has been really bad at our apartments, where there's a lot of standing water from ditches and whatnot. Really big ones too.

Remember when it froze and people said "well, at least there will be less bugs..."

Yeah the freeze didn't kill them, it just made them more ferocious apparently.

How does someone allow that to happen? Fell asleep? No arms?

As mentioned, they live everywhere even in Alaska and the Arctic regions.

These suckers are one bug I wouldn't mind performing mass genocide with science.

This is basically what happened to mosquitos during the freeze. They'll out live us even after we are nuked by North Korea and China

    Nice legs.

I learned about the Alaskan mosquitos directly from T.C. Boyle. He was a guest speaker at the library my wife worked at 20 years ago and I was able to meet him. Somehow the conversation turned to mosquitos and he said Galveston had nothing on Alaska.

I hear they're pretty bad in Minnesota but I've never seen it when I visit.

...and the black flies are even worse than the mosquitos, and bug repellent doesn't really work on them.

It’s weird that I have not seen any mosquitoes here at my house near Fort Worth given all the rain lately. It seems like they would be everywhere but not a single bite so far.

The little tiny ones are the ones I hate & fear most. They're like the Navy Seals of mosquitos. They're stealthy and unless you're in a bad area, you usually won't even know they're there until you've been bit a time or two. Their favorite spot to attack me seems to be the back of my ears and my forehead.

The big Northern ones are something when you get a cluster of them (feeding frenzy???). If you slather Deet on they might not attack you -- right away - but they'll buzz around and wait for it to wear off! The lone big ones aren't so bad though. They're so big you can hear them coming and often you can just blow them off course with your breath. And unlike the tiny ones, once they land on you they typically stay landed -- making swatting & killing them easy.

Hose down your yard with cutter bug spray. It keeps the mosquitos away for a couple of weeks.

The North Slope Alaska is about as cold and miserable as you can get and the mosquitos there were like hummingbird sized.

Welp...the mosquitoes showed up in D/FW this past weekend as they got me good on the legs and now I itch bad. I used repellent but not soon enough.

Spread coffee grounds all over the grass. It kills the larvae and provides nitrogen to grass. If you burn the coffee grounds it repels them as well.
