In my opinion, this offer from Moses is a great blessing for yao's learning. This is exactly what yao needs if he wants to take his game to another notch.I am all for this!!!!

Talk about being proactive. Go FRAN!!

What's next? Vinnie Johnson for Cuttino and Pat Riley for Rudy? ;)

I don't think Yao Ming has any obligations in China this summer. He will next summer but not this summer.

Actually, I think he does have an obligation. China lost the Asian Games last summer and I think they have to play in a "play in" tournament this summer to get into the Olympics.

The same can be said for the US team this summer. Since they stunk it up last year at the World Championships they have to play in South America I believe this summer to qualify for the Olympics. That is why the US needed a TWO YEAR committment from the US Basketball players because they want the SAME team for both years.

Other than China having to play in a "play in" tournament I am not sure what else he has to do. I am sure China will want him to go back to China after the season to TRAIN with them for that tournament.

This is exactly what Want did NOT want to do because he already knew that training in China is NOWHERE near the level of training in the US during the Summer leagues and summer camps so that is why he stayed here.

While I would LOVE for Yao to be in the Rockets Summer League and be here this summer I just doubt it will happen.

Maybe Moses can go with Yao to China and train him. Better yet, I think Yao needs a PF to play along side him due to the absence of Wang Zhi Zhi. Moses will still be able to get some 20/20 games in the Asian League games. :D

Fran is finally "getting it." Less opinions, more scoops! complete with presumably already talking to Carroll Dawson about it.

I agree with Moses. He's not really saying he'll tutor Yao how to play (a big man who passed--more than off the backboard to himself--is better for that). He wants to teach Yao how to take over the team...to demand it. And that is correct. Maybe the rookie being humble thing is just the way Yao insists on doing it, which is fine. But next year...I want Yao to step up and make sure he always gets the damn ball.

"I'd like to teach him how to talk to his teammates."

but, "We have a big rat in the house?" man, that's weird Moses!

So, who thinks Colin Pine might need a Moses translator.

Big Pee, I'm sure Hakeem could have used a translator from time to time.

He did learn the lesson, though. "You must establish the post".

It was my understanding that Yao Ming was only obligated to play in the World Games and the Olympics.

Paddy, me boy, the Murph would teach them to pass the ball to Yao.

Murphy used the fear of a quick pass to Moses for a dunk to create space for himself -- that's why even at 5-10 his stop and pop jumper was so effective. Listen to how the little guy gets crazy when Yao is frozen out.

How I wish the Pocket Rocket could give a "court savvy" transfusion to Cat and Steve!

So THINK before you stick out your tongue. Someone less kind than me will step on it.

I completely disagree, there are a billion things that Moses can teach Yao that Rudy and the coaching staff can't. Charles Barkley has said numerous times that his aggressiveness, court awareness and rebounding and intangibles came from Mose Malone who Barkley looks at as a father figure. If you look at Charles Barkley you see a LOT of Moses Malone in him, he's like a smaller Malone. Moses brings a ton to the table and I think Ming can become 50 times the player he is now from the tutoring of someone like Moses who can show him the tricks of the trade only a great center can teach you. A great center that is AWAY from the game. In fact I think it would be perfect if Moses AND Dream worked with Yao. Hakeem has a ton of knowledge, but I get the feeling that he doesn't know how to get it out because he isn't the teacher type. He's more of a "lead by example" great player. Moses could teach him how to teach, if you get my meaning. And Moses can teach Ming the tricks of being tougher and smarter and communicating with his teammates, Dream can teach him how to hone his skills. You hire them right now Rockets! I agree with DaDa though, you get Ralph Sampson away from this situation. Ralph, when healthy, was a great player, but we're trying to get Ming to be tougher, Ming already has the finesse game. One thing I don't understand though is when people say you can't be taught how to be a great rebounder, I disagree with that. If you're already a bad rebounder, then I agree. But if you're a good rebounder looking to be great, then that is possible. Ming isn't a bad rebounder, he is grabbing 8 rpg right now. Prior to his rookie wall he had hit a groove grabbing 11 rpg. Now that he is out of his rookie wall he is again grabbing 11 rpg. Guys like Dream and Moses can teach him how to "steal" a few more boards and drill into his mind to go after rebounds more aggressively. He could get 3 or 4 more rebounds per game from veterans like that, next thing you know he is learning how to box out and position himself for boards, and with his size, weight and speed along with the knowledge aquired from HOF veterans he can get 14 to 15 boards per game.

Thumby, me boy, I don't question the value of Murphy as a player, or even as a player coach. I never even stated an opinion on the subject.

I was just throwing out the obvious joke that fit with this line:

Thumbs: "Let Calvin Murphy teach Steve and Cat one on two.
    "

LP: "You mean, as opposed to the 2 on 5 that they already play "

Literally read, it sounds like you are advocating having Calvin teach them to play against double teams (i.e., 1 on 2; hence my "2 on 5" joke). I know that's not what you meant, but I couldn't resist the play on words. It was nothing more.

So THINK before you stick out your thumbs. Someone less kind than me will step on it.

By the way, the last sentence was just another play on words of your last post. Don't read too much into it. :p

Well, Bill Worrell just put any doubts about this article into the trash. According to him, it did happen and Francis talked about speaking with Robertson as well.

R Lunatic:- I think Rudys Staff are very low in quality in regard to Coaching. M Malone would be so much better, especialy in teaching Yao Ming how to get position!

Barkley might learned a thing or two from playing along side of Malone, but he was like Malone in college, too.

I just can't wait. Why I didn't hear a word from the Rox management or in the Rox's official site?

Moses and Yao Ming... yes but we will need two translators to interpret the cultural differences.Still Moses would be great for Yao Ming. This is a move for the best, so lets see how quickly the Rox act upon the matter. The way they do things it might never happen!
