I watched the whole episode as well and this portion that was posted along with the youtube editing takes things out of context. I would suggest people watch the entire episode before making judgements. I also agree with BrooksBalls's post and with the general sentiment of the one above. Rushdie and Hitchens really hate religion in general and Islam in particular.

Basso, me and tinman missed you in Vegas this past weekend.

basso is right, the guy comes off as a complete r****d. He also acts like he is under the influence of some drug or something.

And the little comment bubbles are hilarious .

mos' every appearance on bill maher ends up bad. he shouldn't go on it. he needs better handlers who ensure he doesn't say stupid crap.

that being said, obviously hitchens is an ahole and pounced on him. mos kept getting AQ and taliban confused.

also rushdie is generally pretty good on there.

why? because muslims were pissed off because he wrote a fictional novel disrespectful of their holy book and prophet, and passed it off as "based on truth"? is that why he has reason to hate islam?

hate sells these days, you decide to hate a religion or an entity or something, you start writing/saying outrageous purposely controversial crap to get people riled up, you make the news, get free publicity and hence fill up your pockets, which makes you want to do it even more often and say increasingly B.S outrageous crap because hey, it's working (see: Drug-Rush Limabugh)

that's why I really don't have a problem with those "controversial" commentators/writers.. I know why they're doing it, it's all an act.. $h!t, if you told me I could make a living out of hating mac-n-cheese and saying outrageous crap about it, I'd call mac-n-cheese "Fascist", communist, and its momma is a w****..

Hmmm, there you go with your true colors. I won't say racist, because it is thrown around too much and unnecessarily, but the fact that you went there first, says something about you.

Mos Def is part of the small minority of this country that tries to remove itself from the matrix as much as possible. Is it really that hard to believe that the multibillion dollar corporate media industry might have to suppress/filter news stories in the interest of their owner(s)?

It also doesn't help that America has willingly turned itself into a bunch of brainwashed zombies with short attention spans. People want to know the latest Hollywood Gossip, but couldn't care less about new bills being proposed that strip away more of their freedoms and rights. The point of the corporate media is to disguise this fact while providing you with a circus that is hardly more than a distraction.

It is also a fact that Mos Def is part of the small minority of Americans who travel to educate themselves. He does not allow the media/rich/elite/whatever you want to call it to educate him.

He has been to more countries than most of the people in this thread have been to states. He has spoken to more Buddhists, Muslims, Jews, Christians than the gigantic majority of Americans have.

He is one of the most down to earth guys in the entertainment industry. He is not in any way, shape or form what Trader Jorge is making him out to be and he isn't about just disagreeing with the panel.

The guy has an opinion. He didn't get it from TV. He didn't get his English from Harvard, Yale, Princeton or Oxford. Your accent doesn't change what you know in your head. Grammar, similarly, won't change the facts in your head. Language won't change the information you have. These are all dependent on your choice of how to transfer information from your brain to other people. It doesn't affect the quality of information, just the presentation of the information. It is a personal choice. It doesn't mean you are not smart. It just means you exercised your right do choose something different. Not worse. Not better. Just different.

Take a moment to think about how this guy used his wealth to educate himself and also to help other people rather than lift his nose and brag about an accent, bank account and a car. I understand that it's a scary alternative for those who know nothing else, but it is real and doesn't deserve the rdiculous amount of baseless criticism in this thread.
