Crisco, you said good teams dont need to get calls to bail them out. Well the Mavs are a good team, and they needed late calls to bail them out. They were matching the Mavs basket for basket, but then they called the phantom call on shandon and the game plan and momentum went right out the window. I also loved how the Dallas papers said that the Mavs finally beat the Rockets at their own game (small ball), and kind of implied that Mobleys prescence would have only been a nominal impact. ------------------
I know they won't get blowouts every night, but they should be dominating every night. IMO. They need to get mentally tough, give it their all on every play, esp. in the 2nd half, something they did NOT do last year, which is in part why they sucked. If I'm complaining, I would say, damn, this team needs to focus more, make more clutch plays, not, damn, we need to get the refs on our side. The rockets are not the Lakers, they do not need the refs as their crutch. ------------------ snap crackle pop

I completely agree. We do have a problem making clutch plays at times. However, poor officiating is still a factor at many points, and don't forget poor officiating can keep you from having the opportunity for that clutch play to matter. ------------------ "We're not settling for just getting in the playoffs." Nice, that's more like it. Pardon me if I think that the Rockets are the better team. They just need to improve a little mentally so they can overcome stupid phantom fouls. They are going to happen, so why should the momentum stop? I'm not saying complaining about calls is bad, cuz there is some very bad officiating out there, but to blame the outcome of the game on the officials is just ridiculous. LOL R'US Rockets - the official underdog of the NBA. ------------------ snap crackle pop [This message has been edited by CriscoKidd (edited March 04, 2001).]
c'mon, this is getting way off topic. Damn, I'm starting to sound like Mango. Seriously though. This isn't about who b****es more and who gets the calls. "I was frustrated with what he said to me," Taylor said. "I asked, `How can you call a travel if I step on a leg and stumble? That's his foul for sticking out his leg.' He told me to shut the ... up and just shut my smart ... mouth. I told him, `Don't cuss at me. I'm not a child.' That's when I got the technical." Are the refs allowed to speak to players like this?? I understand about tensions running high, and about when players get on the nerves of the refs. That is another topic all its own. If I were Mo, I'd be suspended for going after the guy. How can the NBA allow such unprofessionalism for the referees?? That is what I want to know. ------------------ "We got f*cking smashed every day. So your saying the players aren't being unprofessional? ------------------ "Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored."- (Aldous Huxley)
I was at Reunion and I thought a lot of the callas were bad. Rudy was in front of the announcers desk after a late foul. He called a time out and took his dry erase board of the court with him and DREW A PICTURE FOR THE REF. It was funny and frustrating to watch. I don't think there were bribes (nor does anyone else I imagine) but there was definately lopsided calling. That last on Finley was BS. The ref waited to see if the shot when in and didn't blow a wistle until after the ball hit the rim. I thought the Rocks stayed pretty composed under the circumstances, though I thought Rudy was going to lose it and het ejected. ------------------
On that last play the ref told Francis "if the shot went in, I wouldn't have called the foul". Francis told reporters "what does that mean?" I just hate anticipation calls like that, and the ref who called it didn't even have a good view of the play. ------------------
All refs wait to see if the ball goes in or not. It's a common practice. A lot of the time, there are little fouls that the refs usually do not call, but if the foul results in a turnover or a missed shot, then they have to call it. It was still a bad call by the ref on Shandon, but don't hate on the ref cuz he waited to see if the shot went in or not. Also the ref that Mo talked to is a lil punk. I mean, how CAN you call a traveling violation on the MoTay after he trips over the guy's leg? That's an automatic tripping foul. No buts about it. ------------------ PrEsident of The Danforth Langhford FAN CLUB... He IS our future All-Star Small Forward
Originally posted by *: Its one thing for players to cuss at each other. Its part of the game to get into each others heads. If they take it too far and say, cuss at a referee, what happens?? The players get fined and/or suspended. Players, no matter what level of experience or talent, are each others peers. It is completely different for them to cuss at each other, and if it gets taken too far, they get fined and/or suspended. It is a refs job to be unbiased, and to be even more professional in their attitudes and mannerisms than the players. I'm simply shocked that a referee would say such a thing. I think they should be above such things as directly cursing out a player. ------------------ "We got f*cking smashed every day. Normally, I don't like talking about how bad the referees because it DOES look like whining. However, Maurice Taylor was absolutely right for getting upset at the referee. If what "The Chroncicle" says is true, then Mo used no foul language towards the referee before he got the technical -- he was simply trying to argue a point. It definitely looked like the referee was trying to bait Mo to cuss him out, but he didn't bite. Mo is a bigger man than me because if that referee screwed with me like he did Mo, I would have totally lit into that referee. Screw the fines / suspensions, I would have just gone wild because at this point it becomes a matter of pride, and you start losing your identity as a strong man when you let other people mess with your head for no reason at all. ------------------ HOUSTON Rockets forever!!

Bob Delaney. Supposedly the "veteran." Yeah. I watched that play again and it was clearly a trip. You know, so what the refs called 3 techs on us, but what pissed me off and made me draw the conclsion of bias was the no-calls against Howard (several times) and Nash (When Mooch got the 3 point play. Man he was b****in'...). Then the refs calls a tech on Mooch when Nash was fighting him for the ball. ------------------ Watch Cat's Corner every Sunday night on Fox 26 news at 9! On the phantom foul where they called the foul after Finley missed the shot, what was the score? At that time were we down by 1 or what? ------------------ Hakeem, Hasaw, Haconquered.
Most of the time it seems that refs get along pretty well with the players, but maybe this one had it in for Mo. I would ask our Nugget visitors for more precise information, but I'm pretty sure there were allegations that Javie called NVE "worthless" or something to that effect. ------------------ The Rockets will be the NBA champions.
