Jefferson and Rubio would be > than Bosh or Amare BUT MINN has no reason to trade Rubio to us. They are probably willing to move Al, but their greatest need is a dynamic wing player. Our assets in a s&t are essentially talent at the pf/sf/pg positions along with expirings and future draft picks. The Wolves don't need any of those things as they have plenty of young undeveloped talent at those positions, don't have any poison long term contracts, and already have many draft picks that are better than what we can offer. So, pls explain to me why they would trade with us?
I have said from the get go that the perfect trade is a 3-way between us, Minny, and Toronto. Send expirings and picks to Minny, Minny sends Jefferson to Toronto, we send Toronto Hill plus a pick. We get back Bosh and rights to Rubio. This would likely require that the 2011 pick swap (the real value) is traded to one of either Minny or Toronto (likely Minny), and it would mean our #14 plus NY's 2012 goes to the other team (likely Toronto). Then Morey's gotta buy 2nd rounders again and light it up with them. (Hopefully Larry Sanders falls into the 2nd round).
Minny is getting the cold shoulder from Rubio (because he doesn't like the cold weather in Minny). Once they realize he ain't com'n, they'll trade him for some value.
Well for starters, they can get nearly the same production from Kevin Love for a fraction of the price of Jefferson. That's why they are looking for takers....Minney doesn't get the fan support that most teams have and are one of the teams that are hurting revenue wise. They want want to trade Jefferson and get back draft picks and cheap talent....Houston is loaded with both. It's a win win IMO. Minny really is lacking in EVERY position except PF and can help build their team trading their most expensive piece. They need all the high picks they can get because ONE....no major free agent is going there....TWO, they DON'T want to pay major money for a free agent unless it's the player that fills seats and thats not happening. So they want draft picks to build the team along with young players with cheap contracts. They know they messed up with Rudio and he's not going there......they can't afford to waist picks like that, so that knicks pick will look pretty good to everyone once Lebron goes elsewhere lol
I don't like a player who's had Torn ACL injuries, especially with our own injury problems with Yao and Kevin Martin
Leeb and I have been talking about this for some time know. I think Jefferson is the guy Morey will target. Jefferson's value on the trade market is low which is a good thing. He has 3 more years left on his contract $13,14,and 15 mil. He can also play the center spot which Morey is looking for. We all know Morey wants Rubio but I'm sure he might have to pay more for him. I don't think Morey is truly counting on Yao. I think it would be stupid for anyone at this point to count on Yao.
Last time I check Amare had two major knee surgeries and eye issues. The doctor that performed the knee surgery on Amare stated that he'll more than likely need surgery again in the next 5 to 6 years. That's a big big question mark there. Bosh has missed his share of time as well. Granted he's only missed 65 games compared to 87 games from Jefferson. At least with Jefferson coming to the Rockets, he won't have to do all the heavy lifting by himself.
I would do this: For jefferson only, they get anderson, choose between battier or jeffries and chase or hill. Depending whom they take between hill and chase would determine who i draft at 14. If for some strange reason they want jeffries and shane, thats even better.
Well that's fair, but ACL injuries happen. It's not 1980 anymore where that was a career ender.....most cases now a days the knee is better than before. If we were talking about Micro Fracture....i'd be a lil worried. Al missed 6 games I think all of last year....yea, I'd take that
I'd rather have Jefferson for three years at an average of $14 million than Chris Bosh at an average of $22 million for for five or six years. I don't think Bosh is that much better than Jefferson and he certainly can't play Center as effectively (I doubt he will even want to considering his love of the perimeter).
Grabbing Jefferson, I can understand that; however: 1) You seriously think Kahn is going to give up that quickly on a player who can't even play here yet and is that hyped? That makes absolutely no sense. Sure, the guy's an idiot, but I'm pretty sure this kind of deal will never go down. 2) [assuming there's an alternate world where we still get al jeff] what does this do to our team's already fragile defense? He's not a very good defender. 3) What does this do for our team's problem with length and athleticism? As the Lakers of the world have shown, it's LONG, not just big, front courts that are successful. Jefferson is surely a very big man, but more like a Scola with added girth instead of a LONG player (like Gasol, Bynum Odom, or in our case, BOSH). Those who make the argument that we don't need Bosh, and can substitute him for Jefferson, make me realize how little most people actually know about basketball - it's not about PPG or RPG, it's how those stats are collected. 4) I think it's safe to assume that Al Jeff's numbers, due to his undeniably awful team, are a little inflated. Sure, Bosh plays on a bad team too, but they're not minnesota bad, and on top of that, Bosh is an athlete and very long, something our front court needs more than anything else. With all this in mind, I would not be disappointed if we kept the team mostly the same if we didn't get Bosh; no point in tying up future money if the player you want now isn't available. Alternatively [in a non-Bosh world], I would trade Battier and a future 2nd rounder for Pryzbilla, and then trade Jeffries and our 14 pick for Thabeet and a spare part. That wouldn't be a bad frontcourt rotation because we'd have 3 7-footers for cheap without sacrificing integral components of the team, and making much-needed upgrades in the length department.
I'm sure they're going to want our 14 pick. If I'm Morey, I would tell them they can have the 14 pick but we get to keep Hill. There's too many bigs in this year's draft for Houston not being able to either keep the pick or keep Hill. That's just my opinion of course.
Jefferson and Yao are redundant- they both bring the same offensive skillset. It's pointless to have both of them on the floor together unless you plan on parking Yao above the key.
Wolves president David Kahn said he would be surprised if the Wolves keep all three of their first-round draft picks. Minnesota currently holds picks No. 4, 16 and 23. There are rumors that they love Evan Turner and would give the Sixers No. 4 and 16 in exchange for No. 2. There are also rumors that they don't like Al Jefferson and Kevin Love together, meaning one could become available as part of a package. Look for Kahn to be among the busiest men around on June 24.
And by reading your post you haven't seen much of Jefferson before. Before he had his knee injury, Jefferson was killing the best PF's in the west. He was killing Duncan, Amare, Dirk, and yes Yao. Jefferson isn't a great defender but he has never been asked to defend anyone. He's job was to score and rebound. Just like Charles Barkley said it best... Rebounds count in the defensive side. This argument that having Yao and Jefferson playing together would be the slowest team against the pick and roll... Well see Tim Duncan and David Robinson. Tim is a great defender but he and David Robinson struggled against the Pick n Roll but they were still able to play defense and make the other team work going into the paint. I'm not saying Yao/Jefferson would be Duncan/Robinson but I think they can work. Bosh is a piss poor defender as well. Don't get me wrong... I would love to have Bosh but the likelihood of us getting Bosh is very slim. I rather have a player that can give us close to what Bosh can do at a cheaper rate.
Some rumors have it that Kahn would trade both Love and Jefferson in separate deals because Rambus doesn't believe in those two guys. They stated that both can't play in the triangle offense. Kahn took Rubio because he wanted a trade chip. He knew Rubio wasn't going to come to Minny. Here's the thing about Minny... No one wants to play there. That's why it's important for Kahn to have cap space, draft picks, and expiring contracts so they can make trades to get the players they want.
First off...it's all subjective and cooler talk but on your first thought 1. Yes i do think Kahn will start looking to unload Rudio if the right deal came along. Sure he could probably get more shopping Rubio alone, but NO team will break the bank for Minney knowing that Rubio want play for them. Minney loses leverage every hour. 2. As far as defense is concerned....do you think adding Al Jefferson hurts our defense more than what it is? The answer to that is no....of course he's not a great defender but by no means he's terrible. Bosh isn't really any better on defense himself. Bosh might be nimble and quick, but he's bullied around like a doll when a player with bulk and mass comes to town. So...me personally...his overall size and mass along with defensive boards will aid our defensive. 3. You can see number 2. The lakers size can be overwelming with a front line of chuck hayes, Scola and trevor....but a front line of Yao, Jefferson and trevor looks a lot better and last I remembered, it was the Lakers that needed to DOUBLE team Yao. 4. If Al's numbers are based on him being on a bad team, then it has to say something about Chris Bosh numbers too right? It's not like Toronto been apart of the elite of teams in the east. I personally don't play those kind of games, because a player is a player and sometimes being on a bad team means the opponent can sometimes double and triple team you because you dont have help. So, if Al is still averaging a mean double double and not talking 30 shots to do it.....I'm in even IF his team only wins 2 games a year lol
