brooks played college ball in the northwest (oregon right) and would be a fan favorite quickly in portland. i see why they would want him.

we get younger, and i'd assume this wouldn't affect our 2010 position by much?

I think this trade would make alot of sense for both teams especially Portland.
By the looks of it, Portland will be a contender alot sooner than Houston so Battier gives them everything that we thought he would and has, given to us. Battier would guard the other team's best player, freeing up Roy to play the lesser wing. Battier would be a great fit for such a young team with his intangibles and leadership.
Brooks would be a fan favorite and he also would help Roy because he can create his own shot. Roy handles the ball alot for them so Brooks would give them a young PG, that can score in the back court with Roy.
Brooks is young enough to be their PG for the future and not have to wait on Bayless. Portland would have a solid back up in Blake, who has an expiring contract, so they could add to that position in the future. Remember that Portland still has the draft rights to Peterri Koponen and they just drafted Patty Mills, so they have future PG options. They probably hate giving up Bayless but Brooks helps them alot more now and possibly in the future.

Houston getting Bayless would be great because he is so young that he could turn out to be our franchise PG down the road. Kyle Lowry could start the season as the starter if the Rockets don't feel Bayless is ready. There is no need to rush him because we can afford to wait a bit for him.

Finally as far as possible Centers go, I know he is not the athletic type big man we might be looking for, but we have to find a way to get Marc Gasol away from the Grizzles!! Memphis is going nowhere fast and I think Marc would be the perfect backup/new starter for years to come. I'm not sure if Memphis would be willing to trade him but he would be my first option for a trade. I want no part of Amar'e because he is going to command alot of money and he has his injury issues as well.
If we can pull off the mentioned Houston/Portland trade and steal Marc Gasol away from the Grizzles, we would be set for years and have great cap space for the following off season and beyond!!

Patrick O'Bryant is interesting, I keep seeing his name pop up on here, is he a free agent?

i doubt anything will happen before yao's status is more clear with the doctors' recommendations due in a week, as well as a look at white/taylor/chase thru the end of summer league...

Bayless is an attacker,a shoot first pass second guy. I think he can be a better passer than Aaron.I was very surprised with his failure in the outging season. I would rather stick with Kyle and Brooks.

Frankly, I'm tired of trying to figure out Morey and his Moneyball.

We need a center, so we blow our whole mid-level on a wing when we have so many wings Troy Aikman would toss in his bib. We probably had sign and trade offers for Artest (yes, that's my speculation) and we let him walk for nothing.

Yes, Morey frustrates me. In Morey We Rust.

Thumbs, they let psychoRon walk because they (correctly) figured that bringing him back for one year at $X wouldn't work since "Ron-Ron" wanted a multi-year deal paying real money while playing for a team with a legit shot at the championship. As of today that ain't the Rockets. Also I believe that psychoRon was a free agent so a sign-and-trade was out of the question. Again, Morey isn't done. He's assembling pieces for a reason. Say what you will about Morey, just thank God he's not CD.

If there is a position to upgrade it should be the center position. Getting Bayless would add to what the team already has two pgs that could quarterback this team. It seems to be a redundant move. Please Morey fix our front court especially the center position.

trade McGrady to the Cavs for Big Z and fillers. Maybe Delonte West. We need a center and we would need another SG to replace mac. That would be a dream trade

You are such a negative nancy. So many wings? By my count we have 1 quality wing player right now in Battier. Then we have a guy who needs to retire and some recently drafted 2nd round guys.

Also, Morey wants a center. He's not stupid.

As for the sign and trade for Artest, your speculation is totally baseless since Artest wanted to sign with the Lakers and there wasn't much interest in him outside of LA and Cleveland. I doubt either of them wanted to pay more than MLE for him to begin with.

That's the same type of comment we heard when the Rockets drafted Aaron Brooks. People b****ed that we didn't need another PG, we needed size. Then everyone gave Morey an F on the draft. And then a few weeks later, surprise, surprise, we net Scola in a trade. (and yes GATER, I know we lucked into this because of the Cavs stupidity, but the bottom line is the bottom line).

I have to ask why everyone looks at personnel moves in a vacuum. Why with blinders on? This is a process. Let the moves unfold.

i wouldn't give both Fernandez and Outlaw we would need them in order to run with Rubio, i would just give them Bayless, Landry and Taylor or Budinger
(It would be a complete steal, but its all just speculation! :D )

Most athletic team in the NBA. But I like Scola more than Landry. His defense is better than Landry's.

    Hmmm... this is really interesting.

Even though Bayless is just potential at this point, its worth it if we get Rudy. That guy has all-star potential. He's the dynamic 2 guard that can get his own shot that we desperately need. If I remember, Morey tried to trade up to get Rudy in the draft.

Also on Bayless, its really tough for a first year point guard in the NBA. Especially being on a playoff team that can't afford many rookie point guard mistakes.

For the Blazers, they get a top flight defender to defend Kobe. For a contender in the West, Battier is worth his weight in gold. And, Brooks is the scoring PG that can take the scoring/creating load off of Roy they have been seeking. Also, he's hometown and tore them up in the playoffs. He's a definite upgrade over Blake who will make a fine backup for them.

I just drooled all over my keyboard. Great trade scenario and post!

Good to hear from you again, Hillboy. I've only been scanning the threads of late, but I haven't seen any of your posts until today.

I was never as critical of CD as you, but now I'm really not much of a moneyball fan, so.... maybe there's some truth to the earth's poles flipping. :D
