Nope. Head was picked in the '05 Draft. Morey joined the Rockets in '06 as an assistant GM, named head GM in '07.
In other words, any move before May 10, 2007 (when he was appointed GM), was essentially Carrol Dawson's.
Whew! Great, I hated the move for Battier trading Gay, but now that I see what he brought to this team as far as D and leadership it doesn't seem to bad. That was for a winning team, right now, we have no real use for him. I'm thinking he'll be traded.
I think a lot of people are ignoring the teaching aspect of Shane Battier. Have you noticed Chuck Hayes, Carl Landry, and even Von Wafer and Aaron Brooks using the Battier-hand-in-the-face technique? They didn't do it at first. Now they do. Battier is a wonderful defensive teacher, and I want no one else teaching Ariza how to defend wing players such as Kobe and LeBron. We may not have Shane for 5 years, but we will have Ariza, so if he can learn Shane's techniques and practices, I am all for it. I also think that if we don't trade Shane this off-season, we won't be trading him at all. Anyway, this isn't the thread to discuss Battier's value since it wasn't even a move by Morey.
It happened 3 months after CD stepped down as GM. I imagine his influence was quite small at that point, if existent.
Artest for two low first rounders in weaker drafts where the Rox managed to come away with high second rounders anyway was a bigger coup than people here are willing to appreciate, underwear bus ride and all.....
Come on Morey, ley's call up our good buddy Chris Wallace and Get er' Done......Seriously though, would Memphis be that stupid to do this deal? http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=l45j5o
Scola then Brooks The Artest deal was a maginificent deal when we originally pulled off but we only had him for one year. Scola and Brooks will be starters for years.
Well, I was really beginning to warm up to Morey for the way he cleaned up the mess left behind by CD up until he made this move. He completely lost my confidence when he traded for Artest because I did not want Artest under ANY circumstances. And unlike your description about Donte Green, it was Artest who turned out to be fool's gold and the Rockets were the fools. Now that he's gone, all of the psycho stuff he did that the Rockets covered up is coming out now. As far as I'm concerned, they got exactly what they deserved with the kicker being that they shipped away yet another young talent, squandered away more first round picks only to wind up with nothing to show for it...again.
But Morey or at least his immediate staff do read this board so he does pay some attention to it I am just glad he doesnt look for it more than to gauge fan response to certain situations.
