The most impressive move Morey ever did was acquiring Donte Green and swapping him off for Ron Artest. In actuality this was a series of moves that also netted us two 2nd round picks, one of which became Joey Dorsey and the other becoming the pick that was packaged to get Artest. It was impressive because Morey had to have full knowledge of other teams' wants and needs to be able to pull a fast one on everybody involved. 1. He knew San Antonio wanted Batum at pick 25. So he SCREWS them at pick 24 by picking Batum and shipping him to Portland for the 26 pick and a 2nd rounder. 2. He knew Portland wanted Batum. 3. He knew Memphis wanted Arthur, so he drafted him at 26 and shipped him off for the 28 pick and a 2nd rounder. 4. He knew Sacramento coveted Donte Greene and almost picked him at the 12th pick. So he picks him at 28, showcases him in summer league, and then makes him the "crown jewel" of the Artest deal for Sacramento. Basically turned fool's gold into real gold. For a year at least. If only T-ass worked hard in the offseason to give us a legit big 3, who knows what would have happened.
Indeed! Morey's mastery of the ins and outs of the draft have definitely impressed me the most, but his ability to find quality low cost players is just as impressive. I'm really excited to see how he can shape the roster once he actually has some cap space after next season.
I would say Artest but he didnt keep him or move him for anything. I have to go with Scola but picking Brooks may ultimately look better than any move depending on how he developes with full starters minutes this year and his new offensive responsibilities. Ariza for that reason as well depening on how this year tyurns out even a move to come or Budinger could be the real move that determines the best move ever. Morey has a real chance to make a great name for himself this season with his choices this year or leading up to it.
i think scola has been the best move hes made....i wish we could have kept batum though...especially now...artest dumped us..
Your kidding right? We got out of the first round for the first time in 12 years. I would think that was a success. BTW they are sawing Yao battling Shaq for the first time on Espn classic.
If Artest never became a Rocket, Ariza would have never became a Rocket. I frimly believe that Artest was the biggest reason (his leadership, his heart) helped the Rockets get past the first round. And the Rockets good season is what convinced Ariza to sign. So I guess you can say, in a weird way, we did get something out of it. That being said, I don't think he has ever made a bad move. Never really had a bad draft, never a bad trade. I'd have to say his best move is Lowry. I know Scola seems like the obvious choice but we did take back Jackie Butler's deal. The Lowry deal got rid of Rafer Alston (tho I liked him, he was older, bad contract and not very consistent) and get us a good young PG in Lowry (physical, likes to push the ball up the court, hopefully he works on his jumpshot). Moneyball at its finest. We took back Brian Cook but his contract is very short-term.
Luis Scola is the best move. Artest 2nd best move despite being 3rd most talented player after McGrady and Yao. Landry and Brooks are about even-good moves. Lowry comes next-he may eventually turn to be more useful than Brooks. Can't project how good Ariza will be,but it appears to be a safe move with good yield potential.
I was so happy and proud of them. The team finally got the monkey off their back. The trade was worth it.
1A) Scola 1B) Turning Juwan Howard's crazy contract into Mike James, which landed us Bobby Jackson which got he money right for Artest.
Top 5 1. Luis Scola 2. Aaron Brooks and Carl Landry 3. Kyle Lowry 4. Budinger, Taylor and Llull without picks or giving up players. 5. Trevor Ariza
My favorite Morey moves, in order: 1) Luis Scola 2) Aaron Brooks 3) Ron Artest 4) Carl Landry 5) Bobby Jackson 6) Kyle Lowry
The Scola deal was a no-brainer. That doesn't really count for me. Almost any GM would have done it. Brooks and Landry were no doubt the best draft picks. Give him more respect for that than anything else. Getting Donte Greene plus two 2nd round picks was the most impressive, even if he may have not gotten the Dorsey pick right. Artest was a good idea. It was a good risk to take. I still like the move. We only lost two late first rounders. David Andersen was also a low-risk move that could work out.
