The following are all of Daryl Morey's deadline deals, which one is the best in your opinion in terms of 1) impact for that season and 2) overall value gained for the team? Get out... I was crazy impressed when Morey acquired Kevin Martin. At the time Martin was viewed as one of the biggest scoring threats in the league. Gave us a 20+ppg guy. Something we didn't have (Brooks was almost there). Loved that trade..
I'm going to go with Lowry being the best deal, Lowry put in 3 good years of work and was traded for the pick that netted us Harden.
What he did with a damaged McGrady and all of the drama the surrounded that situation was truly remarkable. We definitely got a lot more than we should have.
1. Rafer Alston for Kyle Lowry 2. Tmac, Landry for K-martin, J-Hill, pick 3. AB for Dragic, pick of Mirotic. The first 2 trades give us James Harden, and the third trade gives us D-Mo
TMac deal was a fleecing. Honorable mention to Lowry, but TMac deal was viewed as impossible to get done, and he crushed it with Martin, Hill, a 1st, the swap, and getting rid of TMac
Kevin Martin trade. Brooks/Lowry Martin Ariza/Battier Scola Yao Would have been a decent team I think. It was a good quick rebuild by Morey with McGrady going down.
The first was Royce White, Hill was dumped for Fisher and a first that was dumped back to the Lakers with Lin (is this right?), and the swap wasn't used. So what the trade really is now that we look at it was Landry + large expiring contract for Martin Not that special, Martin put in some serviceable years and was part of the Harden trade but I think Lowry was just as serviceable and even more valuable in the Harden trade. Plus Landry was a nice player before we traded him to the kings where he became crap. Rafer was washed up, really didn't give up much for Lowry. PLUS, lets not forget about a huge part of the Lowry deal, we also got someone else who was very valuable to our organization... thats right Spoiler BRIAN COOK DA GAWD!!!
AB traded twice? Hahahaha. But Aaron Brooks for Goran Dragic + Mirotic? Where did that gone wrong....
Although Lowry deal has biggest value upgrade I still think Tmac trade shows unbelievable ability of strategy plan and tactic achive, not also get excellent scorer of Kevin Martin, but also drained New York's all trade assets. It's crush on IQ!
The TMac deal has turned out kind of strangely: We were all happy about the draft considerations that we got from NY. As it turned out, the "pick swap" never materialized because the Knicks had a good season. The other draft pick wasn't bad-- a mid-first rounder, but we ended up choosing Royce White with it. Rookie lottery pick Jordan Hill looked like a good asset at the time, but he never developed much. We did use his expiring contract a couple years later to eat what we thought would be a non-expiring salary and get a draft pick in the bargain. That draft pick ended up a part of the package traded to OKC for James Harden. The salary that we ate? Derek Fisher from the Lakers-- who did not want to play for Houston. So he gave up a big chunk of $ in a buyout to join OKC for a couple of seasons before becoming the coach of the NY Knicks-- the team where Jordan Hill comes from. The circle of life is now complete.
The first round picks was a protected Dallas pick that was later included in the Harden deal. The pick that went to the Lakers for Lin was Houston's own 2015 pick, not one from another team.
My favorite was the second time he traded for Goran Dragic. Whoops, I've revealed too much. My sources aren't gonna be happy about this.
Wow, after seeing this, I won't hope too much for the deadline deal this year. All of deadline deals Morey has done are not looking good for me. Perhaps Morey isn't good at deadline deal.
Lowry. I'm biased because he may be my favorite Rocket in the post Hakeem pre Harden era, but for what we gave to get him added to what he gave to us plus what we got for him, seems like he has to be #1.
