I'd say what Morey's analytics don't work is getting players with high character and leadership. If you have guys like Hayes and Battier, you won't get a mess like what we have no matter who the coach is. These guys don't have to be the superstars. They just lead by example and DON'T QUIT no matter what. It also doesn't judge talent that well when the players have no professional data to analyze, i.e. the draft. Morey is just an average talent evaluator in the first round. His frequent picking of gems in the second round give people the impression that he is a master of stealing good players in the draft. The fact is, he is only as smart as other GM's dumbness. When a good player slips to the second round he is a sure hand to pick him up. But when he is faced with choices of many good players, he is not any better than other GMs in picking the best one.
