Juwans contract runs thru 2009, one year before James runs out, unless we can somehow trick James into opting out the same year Juwan becomes a free agent theres only a year difference.
Don't know if Rick is top 10 of "all time." He's good, but there are many good coaches out there. In any case, I don't think the Rockets record has anything to do with Les wanting to get under the tax limit. Basically, he's paying a lot of money for guys who are out of rotation. Dumping these guys won't hurt the team. We are not talking about trading one of the starters here.
There should be a better place for this, but I can't seem to find the "random trade thread" right now so I'll just throw this out there. On Hollinger's chat today he mentioned that Orlando's best option would be to trade Redick, since they already have waaay too many players whose role it is to shoot the open 3 to take pressure off Howard inside, namely Rashard Lewis Hedo Turkoglu and Keith Bogans. What about a Snyder+Head for Redick deal? Would you even take Redick over Head straight up? He dominated summer competition and will definitely have a higher 3pt% if he can actually get some playing time. Or maybe we can take on another player's salary and get rid of Mike James too. This trade worked on ESPN, and Houston cuts about 400-500k off its books: Redick, Pat Garrity, and James Augustine for Head and Mike James Orlando probably wouldn't do it because James is under contract three more years, but still, as a Rockets fan what would you do.
I kinda like Synder and believed he can contribute in future but the current team is stacked and he is not getting PT. Our first priority is to trade Mike but it is not an easy task. It would great if we could trade Mike.
Wouldn't be surprised if it's true, and I don't think we should be surprised or bothered by it at all. He has always wanted to stay under the tax because that threshold makes a huge difference in income. He okayed the Francis signing, and now is looking to recover from that. He's not dumb enough to dump any of our rotation guys, but hopefully he won't do something like trade away a first rounder in an attempt to dump salary (see Glenn Rice for John Amaechi trade).
I think a Rotation guy would be on order to trade if he can get rid of a bad contract (like Mike James or Francis). If you can package Head with one them for something that is decent or expiring he would probably do it.
is les really good at basketball? i have been puzzled by many of his said moves or involvement of the team's bball operations.
No, none of the owners know much about bball. That's why they hire GMs, scouts, and coaches. All they know is that they want to make a profit from the franchise and win, which go hand in hand. And please don't use nerd boy from Dallas as an example of a knowledgeable owner. He's like a stripper who repeats everything his hired boys says to him.
agreed. what i meant to say was... well, put it this way - if i were les and owned the team, i'd let my guys decide all moves since i hired them. and the reason i hired them must be they know more bball than i do, eh? that way things tend to go smoother. of course i'd like to be informed, but i won't be so obsessed with my coach's (jvg) personality and his facial expression and body language in a press conf.; nor will i worry about my team's "style" of play on the court as that should be a coach's decision.
I have been telling my friends for months now that the mike james trade was a bad move.Plus i am one of the few guys around here that actually like howard.i think his prescence in the locker room is missed this year. and totally agree about his contract.its sad to see him on that mavs bench.
I'm all with the Pietrus trade...He could be the big SG we've waiting for..maybe we can trade for Szczerbiak..but they've got no need for another PG
I'm surprised that Les would ask Morey to slash payroll BECAUSE we're underperforming. We're just above the luxury tax. It's common sense to try to get under it to both avoid the tax, and reap the benefits of being under the tax. This should be the case regardless of our record. At the beginning of the season, we couldn't do this because we don't know who will be good and who will suck. Well, now we do. So the logical thing is to try to move salaries at the end of our bench. Granted, Morey might have trouble moving our salaries unless we're willing to part with our 1st pick next year. But he should definitely try, regardless of the current situation.
Sort of. But "having a ring"'...or possibly 2 could be more of right place, right time as opposed to coaching skill. Phil Jackson being a strong case in point. No Shaq, no MJ, no rings. 9 Phil Jackson 9 Red Auerbach 5 Pat Riley 5 John Kundla 4 Gregg Popovich 2 Bill Russell 2 Red Holzman 2 Tom Heinsohn 2 K. C. Jones 2 Chuck Daly 2 Rudy Tomjanovich 2 Alex Hannum 1 Eddie Gottlieb 1 Buddy Jeannette 1 Les Harrison 1 Al Cervi 1 George Senesky 1 Larry Costello 1 Bill Sharman 1 Al Attles 1 Jack Ramsay 1 Dick Motta 1 Lenny Wilkens 1 Paul Westhead 1 Bill Fitch 1 Billy Cunningham 1 Larry Brown
