No Player can translate bench numbers proportionally. That's just not how it works. If D-Rose only played 20 minutes a game against bench players his numbers would be off the charts. Lowry did a pretty good job directing the team last night, he just needs to learn to get the ball to the hot hand. Like Bima said, Martin was absolutely working extremely hard when he was off the ball, but Lowry wasn't working to get him the ball. I think part of the reason it's so hard to get Martin the ball is because he can't post up literally at all. A lot of good players that are considered "closers" post up right inside the 3 point line and get the ball that way. Carmelo and Lebron both do this pretty well. Kobe as well. Durant is just so freakishly long he doesn't need to.
http://espn.go.com/nba/boxscore?gameId=300413004 Whatever we do, don't trade for Rondo. Rose torched him. Here is Rose again, IN HIS ROOKIE SEASON no less, torching Rondo again. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/boxscore?gameId=290430004 And Rose blisters Rondo again.. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/boxscore?gameId=290418002 Rondo can't defend. Blah. Rose does prove that great offensive players beat a great defender. What is not proved is that a great shooter who is inefficient and who plays no defense is better than an efficient offensive player that plays great defense.
To me, a star is top 20 player and a superstar is a top 10 player, but DaDa missed my point. The Bulls won, because they had the best player on the court.
Good point. I think they (Thibs and Van Gundy) did some of the "changing up the D in the 4th qtr" thing back in their Houston days, too. Not so much zoning up, but still changes. For example, I recall that in a game vs. Denver 04/05, the Rockets singled-covered Carmelo Anthony with David Wesley most of the game, and Melo was torching Wesley. Then in the 4th they put TMac on him (who was a very good defender back then when he wanted to be). He kept on going 1-on-1 and missing because he had gotten into a groove and tried to do what worked for 3 qtrs against a different D. The Rockets shut him (and the Nuggets down).
Yep, sounds like a mere star to me . No one could stop a superstar, but they could slow them down. Rose brought his A+ game last night, and you know you have your A+ game when you're hitting shots you don't usually make. Rose could have easily dropped 40+ points on anyone last night, but Lowry did his best to slow him down. If Kobe was lighting Battier up (like always), does that mean we should take Battier out and put Martin on him? Bulls had the best player on the court, and easily a top 5 player in the league. Yet it was still an extremely close game, and a game that could've been won had it not been a few questionable reviews at the worse possible moments.
It is bizzare Shane and Bud are getting WIDE open shots and clanging them like the dinner bell on the prairie. They need to knock down open jumpers. DD
I really think the Melo rumors have affected them. They both are negatives on the floor mcbride of constantly missing open looks.
That is what happens when your GM is on every radio show and talking in the media about needing a superstar player. It is one thing to KNOW it.....it is a whole other thing to hear it all the time. DM should not be so media interactive in regards to stuff like that, it is bad people management. DD
Yes, DM the GM should not be inferring the next move; the best move - - and No, no professional should play like he hears a thing. Clang is not the sound from DM the GM but the cold, cold, cold shooters (sic).
