Yes, next game take your eyes off of the ball and watch him play defense in a team setting. He is slow on rotations, does not close out well on shooters and often chases his man allowing for dribble penetration, and has a tendency to float away from his man when defending the post for easy dunks/layups.

Also he has a tendency to not get back on defense quick enough because he is trying to swat away the rebound from the opposing team.

The defense starts with the guards putting pressure on the ball, but Scola's issues on defense seem to be looked over by the coaching staff because of "hussle." Yes, he hussles, but if he eliminated or worked on alot of his issues on defense then he would have to try so hard to be as effective.

He is indeed the most terrible, Scola on D that is. He is just getting exposed more than others because he plays at PF and is undersized to almost every opponent.
He is 110 percent effort on Offense and 30 percent effort on defense. He just doesnt try much. Slow on rotations, not closing in on his man, overplaying the wrong player and being out of position.

Yeah his scoring is fools gold, so is AB and so is Martin. Thats why this team sucks literally.

The difference between Scola, Martin and AB is that Luis tries his A$$ off. He is nonathletic so it is VERY difficult for him to guard some of the better bigs in the game but he gives it EVERYTHING he has. Martin and AB to often appear to accept their defensive issues and try to outscore their opposition, which made Martin's performance last night so good...he TRIED to guard Kobe. The truth is that all three are pathetic defenders and part of the problem not the solution HOWEVER the alternatives aren't enough of an upgrade defensively to sacrifice what they do do well, score the ball.

im laughing so hard right now

Luis tries his arse so hard to cover the mid range shooter. Gives it everything he can cause he is a better hustler then the other bad defenders. BAWAHHAH

He also makes all the freethrows despite being exhausted from his defense work!

dude, get legit. Oh and lets not forget his WNBA fouling of still letting his man get the ball off.

Scola is the worst defender on the team hands down.

Chuck Hayes is a lock down defender and is far from athletic. There is so much more to great defense than just simple athleticism.

I'm not disagreeing with you, just explaining why I believe Martin and Brooks get more of the blame then Scola. Do we EVERY say how much Martin and Brooks hustled or gave on effort when talking about their games? Scola is ALWAYS praised for his hustle, heart and effort even though his man pretty much destroys him on nightly basis.

Chuck is a better athlete then Scola and has refined his skill to an ELITE level and is also VERY unique. Comparing Chuck's defense to Scola is as bad as comparing Scola's offense to Chuck's. Can Scola player better defense, sure, can he be a lock down defender...doubtful.

There is also so much more to defense than just fundamentals. There is size which Chuck does not possess. Then there is defensive rebounding which Chuck allows the other team to get multiple shots by going over his back for rebounds for second shots. Allowing the other team to come back on you when you stop them on defense with the lead over them or tie them. If they keep tipping the ball to themselves because you lack size? Thats sucky defense plain and simple.

Depends on how you're defining athleticism. I think Chuck's got it. He looks pretty athletic when he's shutting down Amare, anyway. Great footwork and the Piston Honda hand swat. Chuck's an athlete, man!

Interesting he claims that was Patterson's best game, as against the Raptors he had a double double.

It's time to give the boy the ball on the post up and see what he's really got.
