I doubt that was the case in past years. Although clearly he was valued more than we thought, as evidenced by the perceived over-sized contract offer from Cle at the time. By now though, I suspect most smart teams have caught on. Although there may still be, as it always seems to be the case, some dumb teams out there that will overrate a flashy points per game. At least HOPEFULLY, for the Rockets sake.
Brooks and Yao were out. But Bud had every opportunity to keep love. He didn't and it kind of shows you why Morey traded for T-Will.
I think it has more to due with impact on a game. Morey tends to mention players that had positive impact on games.
No, it is Morey's opinion about that particular night, and he has an agenda when he tweets just like everyone here does as well. DD
I wonder what the "Morey twitter rating" on Landry was like last year before he got traded? The rating is a pretty good indicator of which players rank higher on "advanced" stats, hence the domination by lowry, battier and hayes.
Sell high right? I mean since Kyle is on a hot streak, we should get some value for him now before he crashes back to his career norms, right? DD
Even if Budinger was having a good season, they would have traded for Williams. Williams will have a much bigger impact on the game than Budinger ever could.
You completely missed the point of my post, it was to show the ridiculousness of that argument.... You don't sell high on players that are still improving.....I want to keep both Kyle and AB.... I was showing the hypocrisy of that argument when it was used on the offseason about trading AB. We need BOTH of them.....especially when we stop playing these cream puff no defense playing teams in January. DD
I think, if nothing else, it might reflect his "favorites" on the team. Other factors: - players that are active tweeters might get more mentions (e.g. Lowry) - the "leaders" on the team -- that would be Lowry on offense, Battier/Hayes on defense -- will get more credit after wins Also, he tends to give more credit to veterans than the younger players, compared to the fans.
This. He's not really going to talk about obvious contributions or things fans would notice easily. AB shooting well to get 25 pts is less likely to get a mention than chuck getting 10 boards. He likes to talk up the underrated players, so that all his players get love.
Agenda, as I said...lol....it is not a bad thing to want to educate the fans on some of the subtle nuances, or what he is looking at.....I like it when he mentions our PGs setting up quality shots, whether they make them or not. DD
The HYPOCRISY!!! Nay.. the HUMANITY!!! Except the two situations are completely different. Brooks had just gone the majority of the season as our primary scorer on a team without Yao, Mcgrady, and before we got Kevin Martin. With Yao still in our future plans at the time, and with the addition of Martin, it was a rational assumption that Brooks would not need to be relied on as heavily the upcoming season. Which meant less shots, less points. As much as he is heralded for his improvement last year, in reality it was more or less just taking more shots, playing at a higher usage rate. With the likelihood of that coming back down with a full roster, there was a legitimate case for "selling high". Even after how things have played out this year, there is still a decent case to be made considering his uncertain contract situation. Lowry on the other hand is already locked up in his contract. And there is no golden goose coming back into the lineup. There is no artificial boost in irrelevant stats a product of a higher usage rate. In fact his usage rate is actually LOWER this year than last year. Would I trade Lowry if a team overrates him and offers something above his actual value? Of course. But there are no outside circumstances or impending changes that would make me want to dump him for the first offer we get. BTW I don't even really want to trade Brooks. I understand the arguments for it. But now that Yao is done, Brooks has a chance to maintain his value and usg%, while still filling in a needed role. Anyways, there is no hypocrisy. No conspiracy. The fate of Humanity is secure. DD's credibility on the other hand is tanking on a straight line trajectory. Cry foul! Cry wolf! Damage control! Code red! CODE RED!
A unique thread, durvasa, something vanishingly rare in the GARM. Very interesting stuff from Morey, when laid out as you have. BR kudos!
