dmorey: Have a sports industry changing idea? New this year, give a TED-like talk @SloanSportsConf and start a revolution-apply:http://bit.ly/eXntRD
dmorey Could not knock down open looks. Bailed their O out with fouls. Need more energy on the boards. Luis/Brad operated well out of the high post
Could not hit a shot within a 4,5,6 [or however long it was] minute span. (Only me saying that, not Morey) 4th quarter: 7:28 Jordan Hill makes 17-foot jumper 3:15 Kevin Martin makes free throw 1 of 2 3:15 Kevin Martin makes free throw 2 of 2 1:21 Luis Scola makes free throw 1 of 2 0:32 Kyle Lowry makes 26-foot three point jumper (Courtney Lee assists) 0:23 Kyle Lowry makes 25-foot three point jumper So without the freethrows, go from 7:28 to 32 secs left in the game before we hit a shot. Wow.
6:30 Kyle Lowry enters the game for Chase Budinger 3:42 Andrew Bogut blocks Kyle Lowry's layup 0:03 Kyle Lowry misses 25-foot three point jumper
It's actually something I've seen other sports writers such as Dwyer mention. The Rockets will get open shots, but they don't go in for whatever reason.
dmorey: B.Miller & K.Martin keyed the W. Our shot making disguised issues in our transition offense.Scola did all the hustle things you need to win.
dmorey: Kevin,@Klow7,Shane(!),& Chuck(!) carried Offense. Chuck also w/big time rebounding night - he owns GS. D needs to step up for us to beat LAC
Chuck's averaging 14.7 ppg, 8.3 rpg, 4 apg in 30.3 mpg against GSW. That was nice of them to not play a real center against us. Gave Chuck a bit of break this time around (he's done well against Biedrins, though).
I thought I'd sync up all of Daryl Morey's comments with each game, to kind of get a story of how the season has went so far (below). Here's a chart showing in how many tweets a particular Rockets player was specifically mentioned for positive play. Lowry wins with the most gold stars. Brooks Martin: +++ Battier: +++++ Scola: ++++ Yao: + Lowry: ++++++++ Hayes: +++++++ Hill: ++ Lee: ++ Miller: +++++ Smith: +++ Budinger: + [rquoter] @LAL (L): Tough as LAL were beatable tonight but overall more good than bad.TOs, missed def assignments, fouling, &poor finishing (50% @rim) killed us @GSW (L): Need to do more to overcome hot shooting. Can't give them 2nd chances on their rare misses. Must make it harder in the paint (GS 77% at rim) DEN (L): Too many mental errors to beat a solid team.Poor shot selection&gave in on D w/fouls&off reb.We have strong competitors who will bounce back NOH (L): Our D principles require defending w/o fouling & strong D rebounding - we have struggled so far. We need transition or offense too difficult ... Just saw a cruise line brochure my daughter created for a school project that offers a "despair re-Iiving massage". I want off that ship! @SAS (L): Great effort. Have lost close games to very good teams (24-4). We need to build/maintain leads in these upcoming games. We will fight back. MIN (W): Executed the game plan for the W. Consistency is key to turn the corner. @yaoming progressing well. Ish w/32 gr8 passes & only 1 bad so far. @WAS (L): Need consistent play throughout game.Did not knock down open looks.Could not secure rebound at key moments.Early offense struggled to finish @IND (W): Rockets basketball. Defense solid (except rebounding). 39-30 transition points edge. @klow7 is back! His defensive activity was contagious. @NYK (W): Chuck D on Amare changed gm.Good ball mvmnt, hard cuts by Kevin/C.Lee,& 45 trans.opps keyed offense.Need to take care of biz @home Tue vs CHI CHI (L): Chicago paint D & transition D made offense hard. Our D got misses we need but our def reb let us down. Starters solid - bench got beat up. @OKC (L): Defense was the key - fouling without forcing TOs & not securing rebound when they did miss. We will continue to work to correct. @TOR (L): Had many good looks-most set up by Kyle-did not knock down enough. Reserves have to maintain lead. Fouling & def rebounding killed D again. PHO (L): Very tough.A few things to build on such as off reb& @jordanchill43 but not enough.Could not knock down gr8 looks set up by @Klow7/@ishsmith GSW (W): Team W. Hit 8/12 of our goals. Chuck off-season free throw work paid off tonight. Luis/Kyle/Shane/Chase/Chuck kept us strong on the boards. @CHA (L): CHA made transition hard-we struggle in 1/2 court w/o @Thirty2zero&@YaoMing. Wildcat O & entire bench gave us a lift - need all to W on road ... "I have observed that not the man who hopes when others despair, but the man who despairs when others hope, is admired..." -John Stuart Mill ... You know times are tough when I start tweeting quotes. Rockets fans-please know the entire org is working hard to get us back on champ path. OKC (W): Hill/BMiller/CHayes rebounding was key to W.Shane w/same pts as Durant in 10 less plays.@Klow7 setting up team gr8,triple-double coming soon DAL (L): Our performance very tough to take-entire Rockets nation(fans/players/coaches/mngmt)is in pain.Working to turn around.Brad was a bright spot LAL (W): Beat LA! D forced hard shots.Shane diff maker on both ends.Gr8 passing all yr by @Klow7/@ishsmith/Brad/Chuck.All>10:1 in good/bad pass ratio @MEM (W): Great job staying consistent all game. Off carried our Def. Must remain vigilant-every game in Dec critical. Next stepef carry Off for a W @CHI (L): Hard L but a solid 3-2 this week against tough opp. We need to climb back into the playoff picture in next 2 wks. Game ball to C.Lee tonight DET (W): Our best D effort of the year-forced bad shots, rebounded the misses, caused turnovers, and did not foul. Lowry/Scola/Chuck were very active @MIL (L): Could not knock down open looks. Bailed their O out with fouls. Need more energy on the boards. Luis/Brad operated well out of the high post CLE (W): B.Miller & K.Martin keyed the W. Our shot making disguised issues in our transition offense.Scola did all the hustle things you need to win. SAC (W): - @OKC (L): - MEM (W): - @SAC (W): Much needed road win. @jordanchill43 & Chuckwagon dominated the boards. Shane's defense frustrated the Kings. @GSW (W): Kevin,@Klow7,Shane(!),& Chuck(!) carried Offense. Chuck also w/big time rebounding night - he owns GS. D needs to step up for us to beat LAC [/rquoter]
That's awesome. I brought this up in one of the Brooks vs Lowry debates. Dmorey seems to be very effusive in his praise of Lowry. However going all the way back to last year, it seems he seldom if ever says anything good about Brooks. On his post game comments at least.
I wonder if the assumption that AB has higher trade value than Lowry is wrong, could it be that Lowry is perceived as the much better player by GMs around the league?
He has played 5 games as a starter and only 2 since coming back from injurty. Oh, why do I even bother bringing the truth..... DD
