They would trade the rights to Patterson. It's the same way that Houston got Artest for Donte Greene.
IIRC Greene signed his contract during the summer leagues AND THEN got traded two weeks later for Artest.
are you referring to when we trade vspan to the spurs for the RIGHTS to scola? Because having the RIGHTS to scola didn't mean we had them. The Rockets had to work out a buy out for Scola's contract, and THEN sign him.
@kevinarnovitz Bosh won't find a better situation than HOU. Defensive 5. Knockdown 2. Can't go wrong with either PG. Will be in penalty all game!
Exactly, what I meant. We traded Spanoulis for the rights to Scola(unsigned by the Spurs). For Patterson to go to Toronto, the Rockets would trade the rights to Patterson(unsigned by the Rockets)as part of the package for Bosh.
i am curious if the rockets had to pay anything to be able to meet first with Bosh tonight...it just seems odd that the Rockets were not mentioned too much in the media as potential suitors that they had first crack. I mean Miami is still the favorite it seems, but you know that there would be representatives from Miami, NY, Chicago etc all wanting to talk to Bosh asap (they may have via phone who knows) but everything needs to be on some sort of schedule it seems. sort of how in baseball (my baseball knowledge is really weak) I think Boras forced a team to pay an absurd amount just to talk to one of his agents?
Everyone should reply to Kevin and let him know that he's acting like one of the more intelligent NBA writers out there. He's one of the few to actually see how scary Houston would be with Chris Bosh.
Yeah, with Matsuzaka; I think it was $50M. It wasn't just to talk to him, though... it was really an exclusive 30-day window to sign him to a contract. I don't think that's allowed in the NBA, though, since it has a salary cap and whatnot -- would that money go against the cap, or what? It'd be too ambiguous and fishy. MLB has no cap. I think none of the other team HM's are really the be-at-your-door-at-midnight type like Morey is. If they are, they were probably at other houses (like LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Mike Miller (lol @ Knicks)) as no one else really has Chris Bosh as the #1 priority.
Hate to be pessimistic, but I don't think Bosh will be able to reject the lure of playing with Wade and for Riley in Miami. Still, Morey gets an A from me for his effort.
On Thursday 1st July 2010, @chrisbosh said: It's been an exciting first couple of hrs. Got some interesting visits and presentations from Houston, Toronto, Chicago and Miami. We'll see who else will come out tomorrow.
Morey was quick. Nothing new but... ChrisMannixSI Houston putting cards on the table with visit to Chris Bosh. CB4 top target, Stoudemire second. Advantage for HOU is trade assets. 27 minutes ago via web
Bosh dammit hurry up and sign with us so I can go to bed! Seriously once we land our guy I'm done watching ESPN until the season starts.
10.5% raises each year for 6 years. Also, I believe we got a $5 million TPE from the McGrady deal, though I've never seen confirmation of this. Unless it went to satisfy a previous non-simultaneous trade.
Im not gettin my hopes up too high, hopefully he sees the light tho, com'on Bosh this is the best place to win now
