As a rocket fan I hope they can have a chance to win it all, but objectively even if Yao is healthy and all the planets line up perfectly, I just don't see them as true contenders this year with their current roster. Winning a 1st round playoff series and possibly winning a 2nd round series would be a massive success.
How the hell can a legitimate thread on an important topic get hijacked to become whether or not DaDakota is hedging his much-posted bet that THIS is the Rockets' year? Maybe we should sticky a separate "Is DD right?" thread so we can keep the other threads free of such nonsense.
i still don't get it. how do they come up 24 min for the whole regular season? can anyone tell me that 24 min won't break him down for sure? yao is in the last year of his contract. how is rox going to do with him after this season? how can we give him a contract based on limited playing time? i have a few words. 1) the order came from his doctor. does the doctor try to protect his name? to limit yao's playing time to 24 min does most likely not break his foot again so it proves the doctor is a superior surgeon among his peers. 2) if, lets say, yao doesn't have any setback, will the doctor increase yao's playing time? and where is the limit? does the doctor have any prediction that yao can maximumly play, lets say, 30 min if everything looks fine after a year playing 24 min? 3) assuming nothing goes wrong, how does morey negotiate the contract with yao's agent at the end of the season? just tell them yao can play 24 min so we can only give blah blah blah $? or instead give his contract what the doctor believes the maximum time yao can play?
I just lestened to it and Morey said "Yao won't be playing babck to backs at least early on". So at least that situation is fluid and I've seen this misrepresented in two threads.
You just take what is said for what its worth or what you think it's worth. For instance, they had Dr. Kenneth R. First on SR610 yesterday. He basically called out the Rockets medical staff or the doctors who did the surgery, saying there is no scientific data to support this number "that has been pulled out of random".(Obviously referring to 24). He says You can listen(start from the beginning to the 3:11 mark for part on Yao Ming) http://kilt.cbslocal.com/2010/09/16/dr-kenneth-first-with-marc-and-john-91610/
great....so its the t-mac situation all over again, don´t they remember the problems caused by going in and out of the line up?
So he's going to be eased into playing time at the start of the season, is that really a surprise? As DM said, the only true surprise is that at the beginning of the season, he'll have to sit out a few back to backs. Other than that, him playing less minutes until further notice should have been everyone's educated guess already for a player with such an extensive surgery on his foot.
It's been said a few times that the Rockets miss Yao's defense more then his offense. Not that he's got quick fit or can guard bigs all over the court, but that he's a rim protector. His offense is nice, but not needed so much. Deke's performance when Yao was out helps solidify that. So that begs the question, if that's really what we missed, how easy is it replace that? How hard is it get a rim protector? Keeping Yao right now is a gamble. I'd really like to know what his trade value is now and see if it's worth the risk of keeping him, in a basketball sense. Can we get a solid big for him? Can we increase our tradable assets to acquire another all-star caliber guy? Can we get another high draft pick? If we can get a decent center and have 2 top 5 draft picks for next year.... Oh, and I can't see melo or any other star chosing to come here with half a Yao.
thanks for the link. rox screw everything. why didn't they do on both feet? i understand yao should start slowly and gradually to allow him to get used to his restructured foot but why no change at all as the season goes on. if we don't see any setback for a half season, we should increase his playing time alittle bit to test how his foot holds up. then by the time the playoff starts, he should be able to play around 30 min instead of baseless 24 min.
if you don't believe, how the hell will other ppl believe? if you want to trade him for valued return, you better play him to a certain point that other ppl bellieve he can play w/o injury concern. 24 min playint time won't convince other ppl. 30 min should do.
Cause he wasn't on his last year on his contract that's why. They are trying to lower his value so they don't have to pay the max. I'm telling you, Morey is freaking cut throat.
This is unfair to the team and Adelman. Either play him or trade him. Stop the babysitting. This next season is going down.
http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=192377 Glad to see morey and clanton were listening to me I still feel that minutes aren't a big deal as long as he isn't in pain. The most important thing is getting the proper number of rest days between games and resting at the slightest bit of discomfort.
If the Rockets Are Still This Concerned Why Even Play Him? If the Rockets Are Still This Concerned Why Even Play Him? The Rockets have already restricted Yao to play 24 minutes per game, and not playing on any back-to-backs. That's 19 games he won't play at least, I'm sure give or take a few more So far it sounds as if the management doesn't really have faith at all in that he will be able to comeback. By playing Yao in such a limited role you are causing the rest of the team to constantly be in possible flux. The team will continuously have to adjust playing with and without Yao. Which having him on/off creates a completely different style of offense and defense. Why not just let him sit out at least until December, keep him going in practices hard so to further let him recover and see what he possibly has. I understand the team wants to see what they are working with, but letting Yao play on such restrictions really shows you nothing at all and is possibly just hiding the truth. This team is to focused around Yao who is an aging injury prone center who will soon be past his prime. Let the bigman sit and get more recovery time if you truly believe he isn't ready to come back, because obviously they still don't. We already played an entire year without him last year, now we can see what we can do with the healthy core that we do have.
You're assuming they are restricting his time to allow him to heal and recover, but that's not it. They are trying to keep him from stressing it out too much at any one given time, so keeping him out for the first half of the season wouldnt magically allow him to play 40 mins after that. Plus, they already said this could change, if the doctors say differently later on.
