Daryl Morey is going to be GM for an east coast baseball team after a year off. Baseball is the most analytical game, so he would obviously be very valuable to a team that wants to restructure its front office. It will be interesting to see where he ends up. What a great run he had with the Rockets.

Morey made the smart move, as per usual.

He knows that the rockets are in a very tough position with two highly paid 31 year old stars who don't fit together all that well. And have almost nothing else of value. They have 1 first round pick for the next 7 years and the only other big tradeable contract/player on the team, Eric Gordon is possibly a negative value.

The outlook for improvement or trades is dim. It's either rebuilding by trading harden & Westbrook or somehow getting Uber lucky and drafting a draymond, ginobli etc in the 2nd round.

Add in an owner like Tilman, it's not hard to see why Morey wanted to bail before the ship really sinks.

I missed the context of question posed. But this is for those wondering if Morey went full bore on CP3/Westbrook deal solo.

The Westbrook trade -- driven more by Harden and Rockets governor Tilman Fertitta than Morey, per ESPN's Tim MacMahon -- leaves a stain. For the first time since acquiring Harden, the Rockets' short- and medium-term future feel rickety. They are out so many picks that retooling via the draft and trades will prove difficult. If things go south, they may have to explore the trade market for Harden, who has two guaranteed seasons left on his deal -- plus a $47 million player option for 2022-23.

its all very relative and vague.. it was only their first year.... next year they could dominate the league and nobody would be surprised and everybody would have explained it away with the new coach, real season or better health

They play virtually the same position.

They take away from each other more than they help each other.

WB's contract would not allow the front court to have real players.

If Russ was Giannis, that'd be another story but he ain't 6'11.

Both are not going to get younger.

Dominating the regular season at the cost of failing in the postseason, does mean squat.

Morey said before that he wouldn't give up unless he believes winning a title is no longer an option.

I guess he finally gave up after Tilman started to act like Dolan.

We're clearly going nowhere and need to figure out how to start rebuilding as soon as possible.

China state broadcaster hints NBA exec Morey 'paid price' for HK tweet

China's state broadcaster CCTV warned Friday those who "hurt the feelings of the Chinese people will have to pay a price" after Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey stepped down.

But in a short reaction, CCTV suggested that Morey may have been forced out.

"We reiterate that any words and deeds that attempt to hurt the feelings of the Chinese people will have to pay a price," CCTV said in a statement on its website which was also read out on air.

The broadcaster said it wished Morey well, but used a phrase that in Chinese is usually reserved for people who have died.

Morey's departure made major news in China, where the NBA commands a huge following and his tweet last year caused uproar, and demands that he be sacked.

On the Twitter-like Weibo the hashtag "Morey resigns" had 110 million views as of Friday lunchtime and was a top-25 trending topic.

YES. In a game where you're UP BIG, then miss 27 consecutive 3's, taking a open midrange shot shouldn't be frowned upon. I'm not sure how much more I can dumb this down for you. Morey's thought process was eventually they'll start falling, which is NOT efficiency. Also, if the strategy is too chuck up more 3's than everybody else, it would help to get REAL 3pt shooters (but this was never done under Morey). The whole offense was simply catered around Harden getting his numbers. Morey never wanted to win a championship here

This almost pisses me off more than anything the fact that those commies think anyone cares about their feelings is funny.

Also let's not forget the negative perception we've had because of Morey. The Rockets are now a organization NO free agents come to. Also we are known to not pay guys, like PJ, yet expect them to outplay their contracts. This organization has been a mess under Daryl Morey
