Kelly Dwyer won't find much support 'round these parts for being more gentle when discussing Royce White.

Whatever our thoughts may be regarding Royce White and his responsibility for his non-existent career, I agree with Kelly's point that Morey shouldn't be publicly shaming a former player. I think that should just be a basic protocol for general managers. It may not have been his intention to make a dig against White, but that's what it comes off as.

If this was Kelly's point, he certainly didn't make that clear.

His point seems to be more about his personal opinion (cause that's all it is for anyone without insider knowledge), that this really wasn't Royce's fault.

Maybe he's right... I personally find it HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY dubious that Royce says all the right things, when it's to his benefit to collect money, but ultimately acts completely differently, and has time and time again played the victim card. He comes across to me as COMPLETELY in control. A dude that really doesn't like professional ball all that much anyway, has other interests, but wanted to get that paycheck, and has used his crutch to play the victim, as opposed to the "thief"

But whatever. I agree generally that GMs shouldn't make an effort to denigrate any players... but on the whole, this is as much a non-story as anything else. DM is nothing if not analytic... and analytically, White is the worst 1st round pick ever.

Morey's pride got hurt. Only Morey haters will only make a negative tone out of this.

I find it almost fascinating that we took him at 16 instead of 18. So many other teams were not even considering him, yet Morey thought so much of him that he didn't even wait until the last pick we had to take him. I'm sure they were getting all kinds of intel on his interest, and it's easy to look at in retrospect, but of all people it seems like he would have been safe to wait to take a gamble on.

Morey spoke the truth in that interview. Normally, I agree with much of Kelly's opinion but on this one I sit firmly on Morey's side. Royce is not a victim, he is a con man.

a much higher pick who did next-to-nothing when other great players were there, like picking Darko over Wade or Bosh, is a lot worse than a non-lottery pick that failed.

I guess on a re-do you'd likely pick Jared Sullinger instead, but he was a health risk.

Just a side note on the Ben DuBose article... I love the idea of Battier returning as a Rockets coach!

Royce White is completely to blame for his lack of a career. Plain and simple. Kelly wasn't paying attention.

I really have no problem with what Morey said.

Morey is right, Royce White wasn't even a basketball player...wasn't he a musician or something?
