He would be primarily used in the season to keep our other guards fresh. If we are relying on him in the playoffs outside of games where we have significant leads, that means we have bigger issues to worry about.

i know. its a multistep process. 1) acquire expiring contracts from teams that want to clear space or save money. 2) in a separate transaction (not combining TPE with another player), we combine the recently acquired expiring contracts with ariza for example to be able to bring in a player who's making up to around $24M like melo or millsap (obviously picks and sweeteners included.) its the same thing we did today by first acquiring a bunch of random players and then flipping them with our own players for CP3 in a separate transaction.
We were able to immediately trade the players we acquired today because we are under the cap for the 2016-17 and fit them within that space. I believe that if we use the $11 MM to get a Jameer or Monta, we'd have to wait 30 or 60 days until we could trade them with other salary (I.e. Ariza/Gordon) in a Melo deal. We could end up waiting that amount of time and make a deal with NY in August/September, but we can't do it right now.
Wonder if we'd be willing to absorb Monta Ellis as a separate trade to help grease the wheels for a Paul George trade?
The TPE can be used on multiple player too as long as their combined salary is in the $12m range. This opens up so many options.
That's what i was thinking, i think Monta has no value whatsoever after his last season...same for Jefferson actuallly. They have basically the same contract. Ellis is a Lou kind of player, no defense, bad shot after bad shot...less of a shooter and better attacking the basket i'd say, player option after 2017-18 season though. Jefferson i think is done tbh, his 2017-18 contract is guaranteed just for 4M though. I'd still think some team may trade them like a 2nd for Monta...not sure though...but for Jefferson, i don't see anybody want him, not even for free. He might be the contract they won't out most.
Wilson Chandler anyone? If we don't get Melo or George. He'll make just over $12m next season. He'd also provide insurance for Ariza in case we package him for another star. I'd prefer Wilson over Ariza anyways if it came down to it (personal preference) although both would fit since they can each play 2-4.
No, cannot be combined with any players to aggregate value. Seems the value of the TPE is $8.6 million.
TRUE, will have a waiting period if we went this route. Don't know if the teams would be willing to wait. TPE can be split to get contracts from other teams, just can't be combined with other players.
i believe you cant use the TPE for a player who makes more than the TPE. Also, you can't use it for multiple players even if their salaries is less than the TPE. The only question i have is, what if the salary of player is less than TPE, can the remaining balance of TPE be used on another player with equal or less salary of it?
Are we sure Morey wasn't just aggregating the BAE and the MLE to refer to 11 million? Just re-read the CBA FAQ and cannot figure out how an 11 million dollar exception could be generated.
