WTF are you smoking? Just because I don't like Yao being on our team and think he is a dumb troll makes me ashamed of being Chinese? I am very proud of my ethnicity and the achievements of my race. I am not so shallow however as to worship a flat foot and clumsy giant on my favorite basketball team simply because he is Chinese. I don't care if hes African American, Caucasian, or Chinese. I don't feel he is a good fit for the Rockets and would prefer that he would be traded for players that are less injury prone. I mentioned I was Chinese to stop any accusations by that individual that I am racist.
LOL. You dont think that there are any African Americans who just plain dont like Obamas policies? Its not like they have to like him because he is half black.
Exactly Their are only a few players in this league that are truly untouchable and we don't have any of those players, but we aren't just going to give them away to get rid of McGrady. It has to be a deal that is clearly great for us.
it's a pretty fair/objective opinion that for Yao's not living up to what's he's being paid, injury prone, slow, and soft.
You're obviously a racist because you didn't include Hispanic, Indian, or Arabian in this statement.
I never said there aren't any that don't like his policies. But, it's hard to disregard his ethnicity, when you have a historical watershed, pertaining to the history of American racial tensions.
If Clutch would actually bump me up to Contributing Member status (I donated of course) I would gladly edit that for you! Until then, it stays not by choice but site implementation...
Not saying you're ashamed of being Chinese. Just found it strange, given the racial-political context of a pioneering ambassador in the realm of sports.
What did you mean your not saying that? That is EXACTLY what you typed. I couldn't give a rat's dropping that he is a pioneering ambassador for China in the NBA. That means jack squat to me as a Rockets fan. He could part the oceans and turn piss into wine and I still wouldn't care unless he stays healthy enough to help us run deep into the playoffs and win a ring. What matters to me is if he can actually stay healthy enough to be worth his contract, if adapt to fit in RA's new offense, and if we can count on him being the star player we are paying him to be.
I just threw out a random question. I would expect a self-hating Chinese to hate Yao as well, but if you say you're just an undying Rockets fan, then so be it. I guess for some, loyalty to a local sports team is more important than that to the pioneering ambassador of one's ancestral culture, whose presence has far more socio-political connotations than just basketball.
This is a basketball forum. Who cares about any social or political implications? If you want to debate about how important it is that Yao is the first successful (entirely up for debate) Chinese player in the NBA and what it implies regarding the diplomacy between the two contries on an international level, take that stuff else where. This is about the Rockets, more specifically about game action and roster movements, and does not need people trying to bring politics into it. The only thing fans are concerned about is how will he help our team.
I'm not saying anyone should debate these issues, as this forum is obviously inappropriate. I'm saying that even in the context of basketball, it's hard to disregard preformed biases and sentiments. You're not incorrect in your feeling about Yao. But, it is nonetheless abnormal (in a statistical sense), given your cultural background.
There were a lot of ways you could have phrased your question instead of asking me if I was ashamed of being Chinese for hating on Yao and trying to bring his social importance to the NBA into a forum not meant for posts abut social bias or ethnicity. For the sake of staying on topic however, I am not going continue this pointless arguement with you. Someone accused me of being ashamed of Chinese for disliking Yao. Apparently I can't hate someone of the same race without being ashamed of being that race.
lol wow I have not read the whole argument just bits of it, but that's pretty petty of someone if they did come to that conclusion. I wonder how they feel about black people who don't care for Trevor Ariza's game.
While I agree with the "being shameful" of race simply because of disliking or not caring for Yao, it is not the same as a black person/African American not liking Trevor Ariza. Yao is much more special than that to his people. He's a pride of China and he does a good job of representing his people. He's the one, if you will. In Basketball, he's almost like Manny Pacquiao to the Filipinos...minus all the success, of course. Trevor Ariza? Yeah...about that guy...I don't know if anyone, black or not, has a Trevor Ariza poster. Maybe his family. Maybe.
