I think Morey is a great GM who is always thinking three steps ahead and makes a great hand with some of the s**t he has been dealt. I enjoy watching him work and glad he is associated with the team in the town I live in. He's intriguing entertainment, not stupid, not boring. And he has every right to be in a rage, and rant and threaten. I think Stern will ultimately relent.
He's not quitting the Lakers organiztion. He's not quitting the Hornets organization. He's quitting the Rockets, not because of something the Rockets did, but because of what the league did. Hence, he's quitting the Rockets.
I think I probably have a lot more faith in him than you do. I feel like Morey can get us to a championship, it's just a matter of getting a stroke of luck at some point. He's tried exhaustively to get a star or a high lottery pick (Cousins) and has struck out every time through no fault of his own. I don't think he can "do no wrong" but I have ultimate trust in him with long-term decision making. If he can find a way to get a star player or two, he's going to put an unbelievable supporting cast around them. Imagine Tracy and Yao in '05 with the cast we had in 2009...or any combination of players we've had over the last three years. Or we can go back to paying the Maloney, Cato, Moochie, Mo Taylor's of the world. Or having Juwan Howard or Jim Jackson as our third best player.
He's not quitting. But I'm with him. People like Morey can leave because they can. Because they have the talent, brain power, and resume to leave. When I didn't like something at my previous job I left. On to bigger and better things. You don't anyone anything in your career. It's YOUR career. The environment Stern has created is unfavorable to Morey. Someone needs to make a stand. This is a joke. WWF-league. I used to think an uncapped MLB was a joke, but Jesus... the NBA is the joke.
He's just playing the media game. If he really was quitting it'd be over the tampering if that is true, ie the Magic might agree to back off if he resigns.
He is free to do whatever her wishes. But if he does quit, it is not like we are losing Jerry West or the like. He is an average GM. His track record shows he is an average GM. There are plenty of those floating around. Calm down.
For the anti-Morey people, what do you expect him to do other than what he's done? Simply there are better destinations in the NBA than Houston and no matter how much smarter you are, if free agents don't want to come here how do you blame Morey? How is his pitch different from other teams? "We have a committent to winning." "We will surround you with quality players." "Our city will embrace you" "We have money" What other competing teams can say that we can't. "We have a superstar that you can compete for a championship with" "We have a crapload of national TV appearances" "We are a huge media market" "Our 6th man has a reality show" "This is a popular free agent destination" Morey has flipped draft picks and trades into a team that competes night in and night out, with little drama and no knuckleheads (other than Twill). We could do alot worse than Morey.
Bill simmons nailed it today in his article: http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/7334835/the-sixth-day-nba-christmas DD
check out a quote from this Bill Simmons article... http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/7334835/the-sixth-day-nba-christmas Just know that I'm a die-hard Celtics fan and die-hard Lakers hater … and even I am appalled. I hope Chris Paul sues. I hope the Rockets sue. I hope the Lakers sue. I hope Dell Demps resigns and makes a sex tape with a stripper wearing a David Stern Halloween mask. HAHAHA!
lol. So no one here has never worked on something for weeks, then brought it to their boss and were turned down? Sometimes things don't go your way, doesn't mean you need to quit. Deals fall through all the time, maybe not like this, but it happens. Let him quit, I haven't been impressed with DM in years.
