1. So which is it? Is he dominant or not? Seems I gave you examples two years where he was anything but dominant. And you are not dominant, when you are dominated by an elite counterpart, or tired another year. 2. Dirk is not a true big man. He plays more like a SF. From the outside in. Rasheed was third fiddle maybe fourth, and sat on the three point line, and was not dominant. Nor was Ben, he didn't exist on the offensive side. Ben was 10th fiddle. Kevin was third fiddle on offense and played PF. He was a great piece of a team, but was not even the mvp of his teams championship run. Pau couldn't get out of first round. He needed the best player in basketball next to him and most people credit LA'S loss to Boston due to Pau's soft play. All you did was make my point for me. All these players short of Hakeem and Shaq were complimentary players. Which is what Gasol is at this stage in his career. 3. I guess you thought TMac was damn hurculean then, and never ripped him for not getting out of the first round. Put TMac with Kobe and I bet his playoff success changes greatly. 4. You say obviously as if Morey has had any success luring big time free agents to come over to Houston. Oh that's right he has had none, not counting Ariza. LOL.
Lol really bynum was more of a factor in protecting the paint then gasol, Chandler was the force in the paint in defense not dirk. Perkins and kg were both big time defenders. Here's what you fail to realize Nene is not a great defender and neither is gasol. Neither one of these guys is a defensive anchor. Nene and gasol provide nowhere near the protection of a tyson chandler, kg and perkins when they won their ring or what andrew bynum brings. Have you ever watched Nene did you realize he's a 7-8 rbnd guy and he doesn't block shots?
Uhmmm. Great season last year. Great playoffs the year before. Exhaustion maybe? Injury maybe? Lacks heart - no I don't think so.
Did MJ? Game has changed a lot since the 90s. It is elite wing player necessary. There may be instances of not here and there but for the most part since MJ it is the status quo. You could also pint out that Shaq didn't win any rings without a top two wing player in the league.
Especially when we talk about 2 starters and key player for your team and one important bench player... That may be difficult.
Who was the elite wing player on Dallas. It doesn't matter what position but to win you need dominant players.
I think the NBA should be forced to pay Morey's salary. He's been working on this trade for three weeks and they shut it down. It explains why this trade happened as quickly as it did. Morey planned this out, and begun executing it right away. He wanted to sign NeNe with that extra cap space and use him to help land Dwight Howard.
(Kobe has zero rings without either Shaq or Pau Gasol, and he won't win another one If he doesn't get Dwight Howard) Lakers might have 3 rings If they went inside to Pau/Bynum a bit more, and less Kobe chucking. That's the truth...
Not for the kind of cash these GMs are making, they ain't gonna quit over this. However, I feel their frustrations.
I'll be one of the person that would go to Morey and say "dont let the door hit you on your way out" Morey has been an awful GM, his statistics move have all failed. 2 years ago, everyone on here was so happy that the Rockets have all these assets and can flip them very easily for a bonafide star. This was the belief that the Rockets management wanted us to have to sell their tickets. But in reality, all of our assets are crap. The only reason why they were called assets was because Morey low balled them and signed them for cheap. His trades also have been the same way. Nobody wanted our assets then and nobody wants our assets now. What's worse is how the Rockets management treats the players. There is no loyalty. The players need to fit in a statistics way and not as a chemistry way. Morey has been a horrible GM since he was hired. He stank it up with the Battier trade and kept on going by acquiring Artest then letting him go. Acquiring Ariza then trading him. Low balling Aaron Brooks. Wanting to flip Lee as soon as he got him and so on. Got Martin and now that his empty stats shows that he sucks, he is on the trade block. Morey needs to be gone, and we need to bring in a GM that likes to take risks, not sit idly and wait for some formula to show him what works and what doesn't.
Let's see how good Mitch Kupchak is if you put him in a small market team and have both his superstars succumb to injuries with one retiring at the peak of his career. Give Morey a break!
Exhibit A: Peyton Manning has a season ending injury and the Colts have followed that with 0 wins. Shocking? No I don't think so. They are just hoping for the #1 pick. That's how you rebuild or start the rebuilding process. Not wasting time on making lateral moves.
Les just wants a marque player for the team so people come watch the game. For him, Gasol is considered a marquee player. And wanted him on the team to bring in seats. That's now how you rebuild. Les cares more about money than winning. That's been demonstrated A LOT through the years.
The NFL does not have the heart breaking franchise destroying lottery. How did that come about? I think the Dream had something to do with it.
