GSW makes analytics look good. It would be interesting to see which of their moves that Morey would have also made. Signing Klay to the max deal? Trading for Bogut? Signing AI to his deal? Signing Speights to his deal? Signing Barbosa to his deal? Which of those would have been made and which of them would have been avoided due to endangering flexibility?
Morey can learn from that GM in Charlotte how to get a good defensive coach, build a team with players who can actually shoot, put the ball on the floor, are unselfish and can actually dribble and play fundamental basketball.
Not just turning Klay down for the max, but entertaining the handsome offers they were getting for him. What West did was absolutely gutsy and incredible. Turning down Harden for Thompson meant he had this vision of him being Curry's pippen and them being this dynamic shooting duo which the NBA had yet to see.
West didn't turn down a Harden for Thompson trade. OKC was interested in Thompson but they also wanted a 1st round pick. At that time GS wasn't in a financial position to offer Harden a max deal and they had no first round picks to trade for the next two years. Here's an explanation from the San Jose Mercury News if you want the details: http://blogs.mercurynews.com/kawaka...t-fall-for-one-thing-theres-no-pick-to-trade/
remember that photochop of jerry west punching cd? add morey's face instead & a pinback button with "analytics" on it. the logo can have a button with "eye test" written on it.
Pretty sure that If Mauri was in the same position as Myers, he would have traded Klay for Love in that proposed deal because Murray just loves star ****ing. GSW were smart to turn that deal down.
I'm sure in hindsight, if Presti could have looked into his crystal ball and seen how great it would have been to get Klay for Harden and some filler, he would have gladly jumped at it.
That was a pretty opinionated piece with a lot of speculation and "I presume that.." bits. Thank you for posting it regardless. Here is why I believe they wouldn't have traded him away even if a pick was involved. West threatened to resign if they traded Thompson for Love, who was perceived as a better player at the end of tenure with the wolves than Harden was at the end of his stay with the Thunder. Moray still butt hurt over Charles Barkley's comments ..it's absurd that he had to create an analytics conference to prove he is correct by demonstrating how GSW system work
