lol I've figured out from this thread that those who are furious at Morey have less than a basic knowledge of how the salary rules work. Which makes sense, if I thought a team can make good moves while paying the luxury tax I would be just as angry as them.
You wouldn't have done it because you are thinking logically. Now think like Mark Cuban for a moment: He's catching hell from the MFFLs for breaking up the 2011 championship team. The Mavs haven't won a playoff series since. He's struck out in free agency on D. Williams, D Howard, CP3, Carmelo AND LeBron. He's espoused the "financial flexibility " mantra (which is Morey's new mantra) only to have butkus to show for it. Now before free agency opened up, the Mavs had publicly identified CP25 as a prime FA target because Morey had made him a RFA. Carmelo was the primary target but CP25 was their 2nd target all along. Morey had to know this. Donnie Nelson was on ESPN-Dallas today and he admitted that they (Mavs) had CP25 valued at the $12M level. It was Cuban who raised the ante with that $15M figure because (a) He was desperate to have something to sell to the MFFLs and (b) He was still butt hurt with Morey over the D Howard affair when certain tweets were exchanged. Judging from DM's little swipe at Cuban, it would now appear that the butt hurt is now going the other way. At any rate, Morey and the Rox are now in full fledged spin mode while the Mavs are selling blue koolaid in 48 oz. cups with CP25's smiling face on them. Meanwhile, down in San Antonio...
