I agree it would be tough to get him, but not entirely impossible. The Grizzlies are looking to shed salary, and Miller makes a lot of money. If the Rockets are willing to step up to the plate with a couple of shorter contracts, young guys, and draft picks, it might just get it done.
There was a rumor on Miami Herald about a deal that sends Mike Miller to Heat for either Ricky Davis or Jason Williams. Both are expiring contracts. Grizz are going nowhere this season. Bonzi/Francis/Snyder package does it according to RealGM trade checker.
I think you guys are nuts if you think Francis' career is over. He's only 30 and there's too much money out there. At the very WORST, he will be knocking around the league for another 5 years. Personally, I think he's still got something left. It may not be here, which will be very disappointing, because we desparately need a player out there with the emotion of Stevie. We have no other emotional leader, including TMac and Yao. McGrady will gear up the emotion during a playoff run, but it is too short-lived, not enough. We need Stevie's emotion if nothing else, for 10 minutes a game, just totally cutting loose and getting everybody else fired up. It's so obvioius we need this intangible.
i think mike miller would be the best bet this team has in getting anywhere into the hunt for the playoffs and the grizz are trying to shed salary to keep that Gay guy on their team as he's due for an extension the season after next. I say a three way trade in which we give up something along the lines of maybe mike james / snyder and get mike miller and hopefully we could get away with highway robbery... more realistically though i see us trading stevie to LAC and trying to pry away magette from them
Not to me. Look where they have been. Two garbage franchises for the past umpteen years. Portland went young. I'm not saying Francis is a fit here or that he should be playing substantial minutes. I am saying he's still got plenty in the tank. He's not finished at 30. He is still more physically gifted than 70% of NBA point guards.
Just to add on to DD's comments, not only did Portland and New York give him away, but Orlando let him go for not very much and the Houston staff has obviously not been impressed. That is four professional staffs in a row. Ouch! Worse yet, Francis shows up in (this is where I want to be) Houston out of shape. A month later when he gets a chance to play he is still out of shape and he does not have the stamina to play even bench minutes. Makes me think SF has given up also. I remember a couple of years ago when Steve Kerr had a big game for the Spurs in the playoffs. In the post game interview he said he knew that he was too old to have any more good years, but had kept himself in shape hoping he could contribute some good minutes if given the chance. I think that is all we can hope for form (the artist formerly known of as) the franchise.
If they're trying to get younger, develop their up and comers, and dump contracts, they wouldn't even consider McGrady's salary cap-handcuffing contract. You're right. It's not impossible, just implausible.
And he's more mentally gifted than about 5% of that 70%. Can you tell me which characteristic is more important?
I didn't want SF to re-join the Rockets, but after he signed on, I really wanted him to succeed here. Now I'm about ready to give up.
If to get Mike Miller we would have to take on a longer, bad contract and give up short contracts? Would this help us? Mike Miller (2 years remaining) Brian Cardinal (3 years remaining) for Battier (3 years remaining) Francis (1 year remaining) Snyder (either 0 or 1 year remaining) Novak (0 years remaining) Would Mike Miller help us enough to make taking on Cardinal worth it? Do you thinK Memphis would do this?
To me, Mike Miller sounds like the most likely and best deal out of your group. Plus, we seem to have a good relationship with Memphis for making trades. Not sure who they would want, but to see: AB, Mike Miller, Tracy, Scola and Yao as starters would be good. (Dont want to give them Bonzi in any trade though)
Uhhhh, you have a legit point although exaggerated. Not the sharpest knife in the drawer. But the answer to your question is relative. I simply happen to believe that he can still physically perform at a high level, not as high as he used to, but at a very high level. He's about in the median intelligence level for an NBA player. Most of them aren't very intelligent and aren't naturally good decision makers. Probably only 20% or so are above the intelligence level of the average person. So, I don't think his lack of intelligence is what is going to cause his career to end. Stevie's career will be over when his heart is no longer in the game. Maybe that moment is now. But I doubt it. I would be shocked if he says right now that his love and passion for the game is gone. But.......I've been wrong before.
I think Francis is done. He just doesnt have the "speed" to his game anymore that can complete against today's quicker PG guards. And he doesnt have a set jump shot either. Just my conjecture, but I bet his sore knee is something that won't go away and that will really limit him. This team needs to desperately continue to find that "3rd scorer" that allows it to be able to get by on nights if Tmac is not available. It could be something as simple as moving Battier for Maggette. But something.
If they move the longer term cap-handcuffing contract of Gasol along with him, it might make sense. We'd probably have to throw them a pick or 2 and a prospect like Brooks or Head. It's not like McGrady would be a terrible fit there.
we should have gotton him in the rudy gay trade anyway the trade would have been perfect just throw in mike miller with battier. now saying that a bench with mike miller and battier and a starting line up of maggette, tmac, yao, scola, and just throw a damn pg in there
I would do it,because Mike Miller could help with his outside shooting. He knows how to fit in with Tracy and having Yao would help him too. We would miss Battier's defense but good shooters are hard to find. I think the Grizzlies probably won't do it despite their need for defensive stability.
Successful Trade Scenario Congratulations on a successful trade. Due to Houston being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. Houston had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
