It's ok, badger. He's obviously a hater, even though he claims he "loves Yao." Haters pretty much wet their panties when they see Shaq even mentioned in the same post as Yao (even when no comparison is even hinted at) so they can Ctrl+v youtube videos of Shaq's dunks.

    To Yao Fans,

It's okay for people to think that there is someone better than Yao on the Bball court. Yao has many faults (Shaq as well) but it's okay. Remember everyone has a different taste. Personally, I prefer Will Smith movies over Jack Nicholson films. Now Nicholson is a more accomplished actor but I would rather pay to see a Will Smith film at the theatres. It's whatever floats your boat.

Shaq and Yao are both freaks of nature but I rather spend money watching skill/humbleness/team guy/determination over brute strength/arrogance ANY DAY. I'm 35, so my tastes might not be the same as the younger set. In the 80's, I use to appreciate Kareem ALOT and I see alot of Kareem in Yao.

Maybe it has been too long for Rockets fans, but yes. Those are known as NBA Championship rings. They are given out every year to the members of the championship team.

Nobody's arguing about "domination", by whatever metric you want to measure it. If you want to talk about points and shot attempts here are the games where Yao had at least 17 fga.

    13/19
    9/18
    9/18
    9/23
    9/17
    13/19
    10/17
    11/20

In other words in only one game did he convert at less than 50%. That doesn't suggest to me that there's a problem with fatigue setting in when he gets more shots. You're basing your argument off the outlier and ignoring the bulk of the data.

Well this guy suggest that it's pretty close. He doesn't know who to take cuz Shaq can't hit free throws.

why do you guys have to qualify shaq with prime? shaq's posted 18.2/9.1/1.6 shooting 60% this season at the age of 36! prime yao isn't exactly in a league of his own...

I'd rank Shaq in the top five centers ever. I'm not sure I'd even rank Yao in the top fifty players ever.

But I honestly don't think there's any way you can compare Hakeem to Shaq. In addition to all the stuff I listed Hakeem actually took a team of role players to the Finals and won. Shaq's never won without a second superstar--Kobe or Wade. That's also why your argument about who's got the most rings is misleading as well--it's not Hakeem's fault that Sampson broke down so early.

You're just lucky that Tinman hasn't spotted this thread.

Btw, I'd also say that Kareem, Russell, Wilt > Shaq as well.

Most people that live outside of Houston would say its Shaq, Hakeem, .........................., Yao.

Your statement is fairly conservative, and only a total homer would say otherwise.

And badgerfan, I think it's an insult to the 93/94 championship team to say that they were merely "role players" around Hakeem. That was a very strong team, talent-wise. Arguably superior to the 94/95 team with Drexler and the 96/97 team with Drexler and Barkley. You put the 2000 version of Shaq on the 93/94 team instead of Olajuwon, and they would have still been very potent championship contenders.

Which do not go to a single player, but an entire team. Right?

Otherwise, Robert Horry is an all-time great, right?

I kind of remember Shaq getting swept in the finals but my
memory is kind of cloudy.... Hmmm? Who did that again?

Remember? After they beat Jordan's Bulls? They were swept right?
By whom? It is on the tip of my tongue.......

I'm not going to go back and look up his posts, but from glimmer's actual post, he's talking more about Hakeem and Shaq, rather than Shaq and Yao. You're really stretching it to make it fit your ulterior motive. Repeat this in your mind: no sane fan of basketball would take Yao over prime Shaq.

You have got to be joking me if you put Shaq ahead of Hakeem. In terms of his body of work there's no way that Shaq passes up Hakeem.

The problem is that kids these days only know what they saw. If you never saw the Showtime Lakers chances are you never will. People watch old black and white movies on TCM. People don't usually go back and watch old games. That's why they have no idea why Bill Walton's considered one of the 50 best players ever despite his absolutely mediocre career stats.

This makes no sense, whatsoever. Why WOULDN'T you include the "prime" qualifier with Shaq when his "prime" was 28/13 in a dominant fashion? Are you hinting that Shaq now and Shaq in his prime are comparable?

Every single player gets a ring.

Horry is not an all time great.

Shaq's TEAM was swept in the finals by the Rockets. What is your point? :)

Yeah, and they've got Kareem ahead of Wilt. Kareem's probably my favorite center of all time but even I think that's controversial. Wilt might be the best basketball player of all time for any position.

BTW, I notice that they've also got Kareem, Wilt, Russell > Shaq.
