really? Tmac "appeared" lazy in toronto and then became a star in orlando. I think its a crap shoot but i'd rather take a crap shoot on someone with shooting ability, atheleticism and PF's height than just some atheletic 4 or a stiff.
But there are no guarantees drafting that low in the first round, this is what bugs me the most is that people think that we are going to get a contributor THIS year drafting 25th in the draft, do you know how rare that is?????? You have to build your team for this year and for the future, Morey has consistently said....that the draft would be focused on the future, and we would upgrade the team through Free Agency. The team won 55 games, with Yao missing 27 of them......they are right there...they do not need a 19 or 20 year old kid to put them over the top, they need a veteran that knows what to do to get things done..... And, as Greene develops he gradually earns his way into the league, or out of it based upon merit. DD
He wasn't lazy anymore than he was biding his time to bolt from under his cousin's shadow. McGrady played solid defense as a rookie with the Raptors.
DD, thanks for the GREAT recap. You saved me 20 minutes of listening to Morey's sleep-inducing voice! Makes perfect sense to me. Hopefully some of the CFers who rag on Morey as being "Mr. Moneyball" will start to realize that the guy isn't ONLY about numbers. He relies on THOROUGH ANALYSIS and doesn't seem to be cursed with the insistence on going with gut instinct that is the downfall of so many GMs (Hello, Steve Kerr!). Ha. It's easy to picture Stevie getting winded after chasing AB up and down the court a few times. Morey SHOULD be happy. We didn't get filet mignon, but considering what we started out with (a #25 and a #54), he basically took chicken **** and turned it into chicken salad. As opposed to CD, who could miraculously turn a #14, #16, and #18 into Michael Dickerson and two scrubs. Oh, man, that's the kiss of death! If I were Love, I'd see about getting into grad school. Thanks again, DD!
And I never said he was going to be great, just that Rafer was not the answer and he should get some time to find out if he WAS going to develop. Somehow that gets morphed into me thinking he was something great....oh well. But, to your point, I would take V-Span over Greene for this year's team every day of the week, a guy who has played professionally for 5 years is going to be closer to contributing than a 19 year old college freshman who shot .418 from the field. DD
Players drafted 28 in the draft are generally out of the league within 4 years....so Greene may not amount to anything either. Here is to hoping he becomes great, but don't bet on it. DD
Great recap DD. If Clutch had an MVP, I would vote for you. 28th pick, hell a lottery pick is a crapshoot, have you watched some of those past drafts they've been showing on NBA TV. A good career for a lottery pick was 4 years.
You're right. I'd much rather have the much older, 5 year professional that shoots .319 from the field in the NBA... Or that blistering 17% from three! WATCH OUT NOVAK!!
LOL - maybe neither of them make it........the point is that you have to give someone more than 1 year to judge them. I hope that people give Greene time, unlike other former players......you have to be given some time to develop. I never understand why people make snap judgements about a player after only a few games, or even just one year.....If a player doesn't show anything, maybe you can understand but if they have flashes, then to me it is a matter of hard work, harnessing those flashes into being more consistent. Just look how far Luis came in just one year.......let's hope these guys do to. DD
I'm not disagreeing with you. I thought Arthur was the BPA despite us having Scolandry, but after hearing about him having an undiagnosed kidney ailment I became worried. I can see that Greene has genuine upside and I really want him to do well.
Just kidding at you DD, I liked VSpan also as a slashing PG. It really doesn't matter whether you played professionally in Greece or you went through the NCAA tournament; it's about can you ball with the big boys come October. I think Dorsey has the mindset and abiblity to play himself on to the opening day roster. We will wait and see on Greene.
I agree, I think Dorsey is ready and you can see his confidence in Clutch's video, but that may be because he is a man at 24, while Greene is still just a kid at 19. I think Dorsey has a chance of replacing Hayes and Deke in the rotation this year....I think Greene will be in the NBDL most of the year. DD
