Over 100 calls from Portland and Cleveland to Houston? What could they have wanted from us? And what could we have wanted from them? Although Morey is dissing Tmac, someone obviously said that Tmac can't be traded because otherwise I think a deal SOMEWHERE could have been done. They must really believe that Tmac will be back during this season and not have the surgery. Sounds like a big gamble to me. I hope it pays off for us!
Great recap, DD. Thanks. I think the true picture of what's going on with Tracy is starting to emerge. I know I had about 40 theories on what was going on there, but I think in the end its pretty simple. McGrady was dealing with missing cartilage and general knee weakness, the Rockets and the doctors said he could play through it, Tracy felt the pain was too much and he was irked that they didn't understand that. Tracy grew increasingly frustrated with his own play and the criticism he received (from the team, teammates, media, fans) because of it. Now he's going with the most extreme option as an act of exasperation and to show that this was indeed serious. How the trade deadline played into this is unclear -- perhaps that was coincidental.
I was looking for it as I was reading your recap (nice recap btw), but like I said, 1560 is kinda slow with putting up their podcasts. 610 had their Morey podcast up pretty quickly. Raheel, Chance, what the hey fellas?!? Get to it...
every time i listen to morey, i feel like the rockets are in the right hands. he just makes so much freaking sense that it's scary
Trade deadline was coincidental, no one gets major surgery just to avoid being traded...and he still coulda been traded to the Clips. I think the game where he bricked that dunk or layup or whatever was the end to the whole "I can play on it" saga. It really is both on the organization to realize this earlier and the player to make sure the organization that they were risking his future trying to rush him back to play. I really feel both parties are to blame... Still though if Tmac wasn't so lazy and maybe put more effort into rehabbing...I mean no one is SOO UNLUCKY to never get close to playing a full season...he's injury prone for a reason.
Thanks for the nice recap, DD. As a fan, I like his "honesty". I don't think he was as brutal to Rafer as he is to TMac. He kind of side stepped the "No one is sad Rafer is gone?" question, I guess it meant that no one will miss him.
Thanks for the recap, DD. What is evident to us (Airballston is a marginal starter, and TSlack is dogging it) must be glaringly obvious to Morey and he has tipped his hat.
thanks for the recap. won't be able to do it myself since my typewriting is horrible. wonder which ones morey has in mind when he spoke about the "marquee player" to surround yao. guess we at least have to wait until this off-season.
Believe me, even Rafer isn't sad. He's going to a team that fits his style of play perfectly, where he has a legit shot of playing deep into the playoffs. I think if Rafer had been really upset about it, it would have been different. But it's really a great situation for Rafer. From his perspective probably an upgrade actually. I think the people around him would be happy for him.
Thanks for the recap once again, DD. Appreciate how you always type them out (so I can read them at work) And I'm still laughing that you guys think the TMac announcement was "coincidental". The guy can do no wrong in some people's eyes And GOOD for Morey to call him out like that after the **** he's been pulling
Nice recap, thanks. My guess is Cleveland wanted Landry or Wafer? no idea what Portland would want from us, but I wonder if Outlaw was part of their offer.
Lowry does things that the Brick can't do. He's 22yrs old, better all around basketball player, athlete, penetrator, distributor, defender (sick defense skills), upside and believe it or not tougher. I was a fan of his at Seton Hall. The Brick is a better 3pt shooter at this stage of his career, but Lowry has good fundemental mechanics on his shot that he will eventually become adept from long range (that will make the kid some big dollars in the future).
Thanks for a great recap DaDa. It was interesting to hear the 3 possible options McGrady has. I think microfracture is a big mistake if there is another alternative. I don't see McGrady coming back from that with any degree of success, especially consider he'll be 30 soon, and it's uncertain how much he'd really rehab. To me, microfracture will probably be the end of his career. I agree with Durvasa. I think his theory above makes the most sense. One thing is certain though--in sports, every bridge can be rebuilt. Let's see what happens.
Hopefully Lowry works out. Morey hasn't made any bad moves yet. What if, and this is a big "What If", but what if this actually helps propel the Rockets past the second round this year?!!!!! Wow!
This fits very well with what I said in the other thread about JVG being the only coach who ever truly understood McGrady. The major point of failure here, it seems, is the coaching staff, because they should have been the ones to make the correct judgment about Tracy's ability to play and be effective. They kept telling him he should play through it, he kept on trying and he kept on looking terrible, and it seems the really embarrassing dunk attempt finally brought things to a head. Their handling of his injury situation has been a disaster from the get go, and obviously there was a major communication breakdown between Tracy and the organization as a result. Tracy has a lot of blame to take too, partly due to his moody/sensitive personality and partly due to his own poor judgment. He obviously has their attention now, but I wonder how many bridges have been burned in the process and how badly. It's interesting how JVG was able to instantly diagnose the situation accurately despite being completely removed from it all along.
JVG is a very perceptive man, he understands motivation very well, at least individual motivation. The problem is that the rest of the team was getting hurt by Tmac and his in and outness, so I think the organization made a decision to be blunt about Tmac, to stop protecting him, and basically this is the result. Tracy didn't like it, can't blame him, children always resist a change in their enviornment. The thing is that Tmac has had this condition for a couple of seasons, he has been able to play through it, and play well, what changed? The organizations approach to him is what changed, his teamates calling him out is what changed. They basically told Tmac to shut up and play....and he didn't like it. Now, Tmac is like ....well, I need to do what is right for myself, screw the organization...can't blame him for that.... So, for the good of both Tmac and the team, he needs to get the surgery.....or rehab, but he has to go away. DD
