This is a stupid panic thread. If SA offered the MLE it is just the opening bid. Other teams will offer more. Since the max we can offer is the MLE why bother even discussing getting Maggette. Soon as the Clips renounce him, S&T becomes all but impossible. Where Maggette goes is completely out of our hands and it won't be to the Rockets.

    agreed.

also keep in mind that now that GSW lost bdiddy, they have a ton of cash that they could throw Corey's way. i'd put them down as a decent landing spot for him, if he wanted to stay left coast, play for a winning team, and they give him >MLE dollars.

The Spurs will have 4 players above average if they can sign Maggette. Parker, Manu, Maggette, Duncan. The Rockets management has to wake up. We need to do some major move. We had missed chances to improve just to protect Brooks or Landry which are not really above average players at this stage. Maybe they have a good future but maybe when Tracy and Yao are past their prime.

The clue is to trade with the Clips before they renounce his rights.

Couldn't agree more. Especially since Maggette really wants to go to Orlando.

I don't see him putting out any fillers to gage interest from Houston like he did for Orlando.

If Maggette were to go to the Spurs, I for one won't be anymore scared of them. People around here overrated other teams' acquisitions ... e.g. Paul Gasol.

We do have to get a lot better at the wing position but it doesn't have to be Maggette. It will most likely be through a trade versus free agency.

It doesn't work that way. If the Clippers want to sign Baron Davis, they MUST renounce Maggette's rights. There is no timing issue there.

The clips would have to take back the same in salary and they need the cap space to sign Davis and Brand. Maggette ain't happening.

That would be a worse deal than the Gasol deal.

    Wow.

how about we make a deal for Ben Gordon? He can backup Alston and be the offense off the bench ala-Bjax...

    "step up" his game

dude, you need to check yourself - no GM can force a player to come to his team... I guess it's also Morey fault that Baron Davis signed with LA - damn that Morey for not getting Barron Davis

Magette can not sign anything until July 9th, giving the Rockets plenty of time to think about it and act on it if they feel they have a shot.

Maggette opted out to get paid...He's a sellfish player on the court and off as well. He will get paid. This flirtation with the spurs is only to raise his value cause at the end of the day he'll choose the highest bidder. No MLE is going to land this guy...so let's stop focusing on pipe dreams and visions of grandeur and let's start focusing on making our roster stronger. Let's stop expecting every big name free agent to come to Houston and accept a Steve Francis like contract. Steve Francis's contract is the way it is because he is still getting paid on his $85 mil contract (Portland) and the money was backloaded. Francis is going to make almost $20 million this year.

Yao can't be counted on to play big minutes or last a full season anymore. They need a 3rd guy that can create his own shot and score. Guys like Turiaf, Landry, Millsap, Maxiell, etc are becoming much easier to find these days.

Let's not forget Maggette is a 10 year veteran. If it takes a max MLE deal to sign him (5 or 6 years), then I hope the Spurs sign him. They'll be shackled with his salary until he's 35 and Maggette has been injured just about every year.

Why does everyone always flock to the big names instead of looking at how they fit on the team, affect the locker room, and also how much they cost?

He tried last year since he knew he was opting out, look this post up next year and see if whoever signs him got his money's worth. I hope it's NOT the Rockets holding that bag.

do you know how many teams actually have cap room to give him more than the MLE???

With Baron Davis signing with the Clips it basically forces Maggette to take a MLE deal because they cant sign and trade him. So its not money anymore; the money is the same.....its about opportunity to shine (i.e. starting role...something he didn't get under Dunleavy) and a chance to help a team win.

He's gonna get like 15 MLE offers this summer and its bad business if one those offfers didn't come from the Rockets.

Maybe we can get Rudy Gay for Battier straight up...

Would anyone on the board be up for that trade NOW?

One never knows what is going on with the plans in the mind of the Wizard, yet so far he shows that he is thinking small and not big. Not in size but in talent. One gets the impression that Les has put a crunch on spending, especially for that very special player which he always stated that he would go the extra mile for.I see that the body of the Rockets is in good shape if we sign Landry, not to say that we are a serious contender as we still need one more outstanding player to be our third scorer and also a point guard who can call plays and pass the ball to the open shooter. Rafer is not this player, mostly he passes to McGrady to make the plays and too often McGrady selects himself and takes too many low percentage shots. IF we get either of these players this offseason we can expect the fortune of the Houston Rockets to be very much on the upturn! Y :p

Huh? Maggette is a free agent. Baron Davis signing with the clips only makes it certain that they will renounce all rights to him and they can't sign him. Maggette is getting exactly what he wants, a bidding war. He will get much more than the MLE.

Maggette will get better offers than what the Spurs have to offer. The Warriors will be after him and with BD leaving them they do have more money to offer him.
